A Few Divorce Myths!

I get half of everything because Washington is a community property state, right?

Washington is a community property state. However, that does not mean that each spouse gets one half of the assets in a divorce. Washington law requires the court to divide the property and the debts in a manner which is "just and equitable.

My wife/husband cheated on me. I get maintenance because they cheated on me?

Washington State is a No Fault State. This means the Court’s are not concerned as to why you are getting a divorced.

TIP: While you are going through any sort of Family Law matter, it's important not to use Social Media as a means to chastise, belittle or degrate the other person/parent. All avenues of Social Media are used in Court Proceedings. This means, anything that you post concerning the other party will and/or may be used against in your case.
