Statewide Legal Services of CT, Inc

Statewide Legal Services of CT, Inc Legal Aid organization in Connecticut serving low income people. At Statewide Legal Services (SLS) we believe knowledge is power.

We are a legal aid advice and referral center helping low-income people solve their legal problems. SLS helps the poorest of the poor; income eligibility limits rarely exceed 150% of the federal poverty guidelines. Our advocates provide free legal advice to Connecticut’s low-income men, women and families in the following areas:

• Divorce, custody, child support and other family matters;
• Public

Benefits;
• Housing;
• Unemployment compensation. As a proud member of the Connecticut Network for Legal Aid, SLS works in close collaboration with other legal aid and social service providers. SLS offers a variety of supporting legal services to ensure low income people and their communities understand their rights, remedies and access to our justice system. SLS has an active and engaged network of Pro Bono Attorneys and Paralegals who generously donate their time delivering quality legal assistance to Connecticut men, women and families who would otherwise go without. Most of our Pro Bono cases are received from our legal aid hotline which provides intake, advice and referral services to low income people. SLS’s “Pro Bono Your Way” Program is an innovative approach to meet the demands of busy attorneys and paralegals who want to volunteer. Here, pro bono volunteers select programs that meet their legal interests and level of commitment.

“Pro Bono Your Way” programs include :
• Direct Representation
• Legal Clinics
• Call4Law
• Legal Aid outreach events (e.g. Stand Down Veteran Events )
Participating Pro Bono Attorneys receive full primary professional liability insurance coverage, free on-demand (online) legal education classes, and free legal training courses. SLS also provides legal mentorship & support and networking opportunities in collaboration with area Private Bar Associations. Fearless. Fierce. First. ✊🏿✊🏽✊🏾✊🏻

Women's History Month is here, and we're kicking it off by celebrating the voices, victories, and visionaries who've shaped every corner of American life!

From the battlefield to the ballot box, to laboratory to the stars, and picket line to the podium, we honor the ones who refused to be told "no." Who built movements, broke barriers, and made way for generations to come.

Follow along all March as we highlight the women, known and unknown, who changed the game.

Reverend Jesse Jackson, the voice that moved mountains will have his echo last forever.

Today, we honor and remember the life and work of the Rev. Jesse Jackson. Born on October 8, 1941, Jackson was one of the most prominent civil rights leader in the U.S. and was a protege to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In the 1980s, he was the first African-American to run for President, opening the door twenty years later for Barack Obama. He passed away today, February 17, 2026.

From standing beside Dr. King in Memphis to reshaping the Democratic Party, to showing us what it means to keep hope alive through illness, and teaching us to stand proud and proclaim in the face of adversity "I am somebody".

This Black History Month, we honor one of the architects of the very legacy we celebrate. Rest well, Rev. Jackson. You earned your rest. ✊🏿

Let’s set the record straight, this month marks a century of celebrating the undeniable truth: Black culture is global culture. From the rhythms that move us to the innovations that change the world.

We’re amplifying the past that shaped us, and the legacy building as we speak, and we are not looking back!

Your February agenda:
🔥 Follow for stories in excellence.
🔥 Share these stories (they belong to all of us).
🔥 Use to join the movement.

Let this commemoration be a declaration. Pass it on. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽

Imagine it’s January. Your heat is out. Your landlord is “working on it.”
You don’t have to just imagine staying warm. You have rights.
This isn’t a favor, it’s the law. Learn the things they must fix.

Knowledge is power. Pass it on.

We're in the home stretch! Because of supporters like you, we've raised an incredible portion of our goal to fund pro bono legal services for families in crisis.

But the clock is ticking. Our campaign ends on the 2nd of December!

We're so close to the finish line, and we need one final, collective push from our community to get us there. This is about pure, people-powered impact. It's about proving that when our community comes together, we can ensure no one has to face a legal battle alone.

Be part of that battle, and donate today!

Justice isn't an idea, but a foundation built with concrete tools. At Statewide Legal Services, we come equipped with the legal expertise, strategic documents, and the forward-thinking needed to fight for our clients in custody, housing, and benefits cases.

We are here to provide solutions. You can help us get there. Donate today.

Yesterday, we talked about the emotional weight of facing a legal crisis alone. Today, we're looking at the data. The "justice gap" is the difference between the civil legal needs of low-income people and the resources available to help them. These numbers show why our pro bono services are not just helpful, but essential.

Behind every one of these statistics is a person: a parent, a veteran, a senior, a family. They are why we show up every day to provide free, high-quality legal services.

Donation link in bio. Any bit helps.
