While we were too busy to take a group picture, we served 19 veterans at our legal advice clinic at the Heart of Texas Veterans One Stop today! We were joined by Professor Bridget Fuselier, founder and executive director of the Veterans Clinic, and volunteer attorneys Janette Baldwin, Curtis Brown, Trish Ferguson, Allen Place, Jessenia Ruiz, and our dedicated Baylor Law School students!

A Vietnam era Navy veteran and his wife came to our legal advice clinic for help in February 2024. They had been sued for a deficiency debt after their vehicle was repossessed and sold at auction. The debt collectors used aggressive and potentially illegal tactics to collect the debt. Jhoanny Gonzalez, a law student at the time who now practices law for Kimbrough Legal LLC, gave the supervising attorney a prophetic assessment after interviewing the couple: “file an answer and counterpetition - maybe demanding a jury trial will stop them.” Two years later, that is exactly how things ended, with the couple walking away owing nothing. Thanks to dedicated law students and volunteer lawyers like Jhoanny Gonzalez, who help us advocate effectively for veterans!

Last month clinic personnel were proud to join with the Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network and the Heart of Texas Veterans One Stop to celebrate the opening of the new full-service barbershop at the One Stop offering free haircuts for veterans! The Baylor Law School Veterans Clinic has been a partner with the One Stop since our founding in 2012 by Professor Bridget Fuselier.
