Does a trust protect your assets from lawsuits or creditors?

The answer is not always yes.

A revocable living trust can be excellent for probate avoidance, incapacity planning, privacy, and estate administration, but it usually does not make your assets untouchable during your lifetime.

In this article, we explain the difference between estate planning, trust planning, and asset protection planning under Virginia law.

Healthcare organizations are increasingly building global teams to improve efficiency and scale operations.

Offshore staffing can be a strong operational strategy when structured intentionally.

The real differentiator isn’t geography.
It’s governance, supervision, and thoughtful compliance design.

In our latest article, we outline a practical framework for healthcare practices, MSOs, and RCM companies building distributed teams.

• Your family
• Your business
• Your assets
We break it down clearly in our latest blog post.

You spent years building your career, your practice, your business.
Estate planning isn’t just about documents, it’s about control:

Who can act for you if you’re alive but incapacitated

What happens when the first spouse dies

How assets and businesses transfer when both spouses are gone

For physicians, business owners, and professionals in Virginia & DC, the risk isn’t death — it’s leaving critical decisions to courts, default laws, or family conflict.

Thoughtful planning puts those decisions back in your hands.

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to speak at a small dinner gathering of business owners at Anatolian Bistro on a topic that comes up far more often than it should: commercial leasing pitfalls that could have been addressed upfront.

We focused on commercial leases from both the tenant and landlord perspectives, and how the most successful outcomes happen when both sides approach the lease as a long-term partnership while still negotiating risk thoughtfully and transparently.

Many of the issues we discussed came from real situations where unclear provisions around use, repairs, operating expenses, defaults, or guarantees later turned into unnecessary conflict or financial loss. Those outcomes are often avoidable with the right conversations at the beginning.

Special thanks to my good friend Mustafa Okandan, a Realtor and the organizer of the event, for bringing everyone together and creating space for a practical, real-world discussion. Grateful as well to Mustafa Sevgin and Neddal Abu-Taa for contributing their perspectives and helping ground the conversation in practical experience.

Grateful as well to everyone who attended and contributed to a candid and engaging conversation.
