Wrongful DUI accusations by law enforcement are costing taxpayers a significant amount of money. In this case, a jury awarded more than $100,000 in damages to an innocent citizen who was wrongfully accused of DUI.

A federal jury has awarded an Iowa man more than $100,000 after police detained him for driving under the influence when he was sober.

A female driver without a right hand was accused of using a cellphone while driving. However, she did not have a right hand. After showing the officer that she did not have a right hand, the officer continued to question her and issued her a $116 citation, which was later dismissed at the request of the officer involved.

The determination of some officers to find something wrong happens more often than most people think.

This is one reason why we have juries rather than simply taking an officer’s word as fact.
