In celebration of Juneteenth this year, we at are thrilled to invite you to our upcoming
Genealogy Workshop. This event is hosted in collaboration with world-renowned
genealogists specializing in Black ancestral history and sponsored by Tulsa
Juneteenth and Oklahoma State University's Center for Family Resilience.
In a world where there’s been no justice for many of us, the theft of our story is a direct
impact of planned disruptions to family connections. The loss of personal histories is
deeply felt through our DNA for generations.
If it weren’t for the stories we share in our homes, circles, and communities, Black people's rich ancestral history and narrative could have been reduced to being mere
survivors of slavery, death, and modern-day imprisonment.
What’s worse is, some of us, depending on the schools we attend, spend much of our
years learning about the history of people who don’t look anything like our own family
members.
On June 15th, 2024, from 10 AM to 3 PM, we’re hosting the “Know Your Roots: Genealogy
101 Workshop" to help you reclaim your family stories and piece together your heritage.
Without this research, we risk losing the incredible stories passed down through
generations.
P.S If you believe you may be a descendant of the Tulsa Race Massacre or Black Indians,
this event is especially for you. We're hosting special sessions, including a Genealogy
Reveal and one-on-one meetings with expert genealogists and historians. They will guide
you in tracing your ancestry and exploring your family's past.
We can't wait to see you there!
