I still do Courts-Martials. Recruit deaths are sad and do generate a lot of scrutiny. I recall well the aftermath of recruit McClure's death in the mid 70's. For the next few years I, as Chief Defense Counsel, and my staff of 2 attorneys defended numerous drill instructors: none went to prison.
Basically saved each drill instructor but it took many successful Courts-Martials and thousands of hours.
One case in 1979 I and my defense team defended a gunny with 154 charges, SSgt with 134, and a Sgt with 116. The Sgt ended up serving 3 months but the Corps was after them with a vengeance for many months with the Commandant making 2 appearances at MCRD to make sure the military court was going to send these 3 to Leavenworth for decades.

The disclosure provides the best picture yet of how much the incident has affected Parris Island.

The group made hundreds of telephone calls to law firms and analyzed 17,000 inbound calls to law firms. It found that LESS THAN 10% percent of callers GOT TO TALK WITH to a lawyer and that almost a THIRD only REACHED voice mail....

“Most of the firms were appalled at their performance and couldn’t believe some of the recordings when we played them back,”

The Law Technology Today post also notes that according to the survey, a RETURN CALL or a response from the firm to an online intake form came THREE 3 or more DAYS AFTER the initial contact OVER 40 percent of the time."

Received a nice review that I am proud to have received. The son had been rejected for Veterans Court due to a series of priors and making a bomb threat this last time. He needed help. The Dad really believed in the son and Josh looked like the person who could make it: not all can.

I have a Marine Son who has had a life of challenges since his return from Iraq in 2008 where he was wounded. He had become addicted to pain pills and was dealing with legal issues due to the addiction. He ended up in jail and we were in great need of help. Had a similar case dismissed in Pawnee a short while back. Defendant, 51 years old, accused of 5 counts of r**e on a 12 year old and 8 year old. I was able to get the 12 year old (now 13 ) to finally tell the truth that the stories had been made up. Man waited 177 days and three other attorneys before we got to the preliminary hearing where we won. He would never have lived long enough to get out from those false charges.
