A note from David at Bighorse & Associates:

"My firm has worked with Vernon for over 2 years now and we couldn't be happier with their professionalism and the great service they never fail to provide. They are easy to work with and have helped us out numerous times with last minute rush orders. I suspect we'll be using them for as long as we're both in business."

— David M., Attorney, Bighorse & Associates

We're hiring Captur certified transcribers.

Vernon handles a lot of certified transcription for the WA legal community. Court audio for appeals, recorded interviews for federal investigations, IME and EUO recordings, depositions of recordings, anything else that needs to hold up in court. We need transcribers who can produce work at that standard.

If you're CET-certified through AAERT, send a note. Working toward certification? Also welcome. We pay competitive per-page rates and run the work through a portal that respects your time.

US-based, remote. Background check required.

A note from the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office:

"Vernon Court Reporters have been a very valuable asset to the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office. They have provided us with accurate transcriptions with very short lead time and have always had a quick turnaround time with the final product. I have never had a complaint with their work product and would highly recommend their services to anyone needing a detailed, high quality product."

Most transcripts don't need to be expedited. Standard turnaround handles regular matters and keeps the price low.

Expedite is for when a hearing or appeal deadline genuinely can't wait. It's a flat percentage on top of the standard rate, applied at quote time. You see the cost before committing.

We're hiring Spanish-English transcribers.

Vernon transcribes a lot of Spanish-language audio for WA firms. Recorded interviews, witness statements, IME recordings, dependency hearings where the parties testified in Spanish. We need bilingual transcribers who can produce certified transcripts in English from Spanish source audio.

If you're a native Spanish speaker (or a deeply fluent second-language speaker) with legal transcription experience, send a note. Court reporting or formal translation background also welcome.

US-based, remote. Background check required. We pay competitive per-page rates and run the work through a portal that respects your time.

$250 either way: refer someone we hire, or get hired yourself (must complete jobs to qualify). Tag a friend below or apply.

Our offices and the courts are closed Friday for the long weekend. Some trivia: 25 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence were lawyers, and so were four of the five drafters. Franklin was the only non-lawyer in the room. Back Monday.

A dissolution case where the parties already can't be in the same room.

Why are we still asking them to fly into Seattle to do it again on the record?

Most of the family-law depos we cover now run remote. The witness joins from Spokane, opposing counsel from Bellevue, reporter on Zoom. The transcript reads the same as one done in a conference room.

The client doesn't pay for unnecessary travel, and the witness doesn't have to spend another day in a room with their ex. The depo still happens.

If your firm hasn't been pushing remote on dissolution and custody depos, it's worth a second look. Especially when scheduling is tight to trial.

Our offices and federal courts are closed Friday for Juneteenth, the day in 1865 that freedom reached the last enslaved people in America. Two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Six months before the 13th Amendment made it law.

Here's how a transcription quote works at Vernon: pick a turnaround time, multiply by audio length, and you've got your number.

Small pass-through fees (court filing, shipping) get added at the end. The quote still lands within $50 of the final bill in most cases.

The reporter's fee is the part of a depo that shows up on a quote. It's rarely the biggest cost.

In-person stacks on hotels for out-of-state opposing counsel, conference room rental, attorney travel hours at full rate, parking, meals, and the half-day buffer your calendar takes when you can't double-book around a deposition.

Remote eliminates most of that. The transcript is still certified, and nobody's booking flights.

When does remote not work? Adverse witnesses where credibility matters most still want a room. So do exhibit-heavy depositions and witnesses with sketchy internet. But for out-of-state defense, scattered parties, or a trial date that won't accommodate a travel day, remote is what lets you plan.

When your firm is fronting trial costs, the choice between formats isn't just logistics. It belongs in the budget conversation.

We cover both.
