Another TRIAL VICTORY.

Attorney Melissa Barrette’s client was charged with:
• Strangulation/Suffocation
• 1st Degree Reckless Injury
• Aggravated Battery – Intend to Cause Great Bodily Harm
• Disorderly Conduct

Serious allegations. Serious exposure. Serious consequences.

But accusations are not evidence.

From day one, Attorney Barrette challenged the narrative. The complaining witness was caught in multiple lies, the medical records failed to support the State’s claims, and the evidence simply did not match the accusations the prosecutor tried to sell to the jury.

Her client conceded his actions were disorderly, but consistently maintained any injuries were accidental and occurred during a roughhousing incident — not a violent assault.

At trial, the Attorney Barrette exposed the inconsistencies, dismantled the allegations, and forced the State to answer for the lack of credible evidence. The result?

NOT GUILTY on all felony counts.

Persistence and preparation win the day.

Attorney Brett T. Kaehne represented a gentlemen on a charge of Disorderly Conduct (Domestic Abuse). After reviewing all evidence, including cell phone videos from the date in question provided by his client, Attorney Kaehne quickly realized the wrong spouse was charged. Meaning, the alleged victim was in fact acting disorderly.

The case was pending for nearly a year and a half due to issues with a critical investigating officer. Attorney Kaehne filed jury instructions and pre-trial motions in anticipation of trial.

At the final pre-trial hearing, the District Attorney placed on the record that he could not meet his burden in proving the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Case dismissed, and another life restored.

Not all victories come in the form of a “not guilty” verdict.

Attorney Barrette was brought on as second counsel for a client facing several felony charges. Before she joined the case, the prosecution's standing offer included a lengthy prison sentence.

Through diligent advocacy and a careful review of the case, Attorney Barrette identified several mitigating factors that had previously been overlooked. After presenting these factors and negotiating further, she reached a new joint agreement with the prosecutor.

The result: her client received probation and will not have to serve time in jail—let alone prison.
