Every closing has something special about it. This one will definitely stay with me for a while.
When I first met Rae, a young, Mexican, first-time buyer, she told me she’d been working for a while to fulfill her dream of owning her own home. A place where her best friend could move in, where her mother and siblings could come visit, and where she could start building the life in the place where she could stay for a long time.

And this lovely young woman saved her 20% down payment on her own and never lost sight of what she was working toward.

When we found this beautiful home in Central Tacoma, backing up to a park in one of those peaceful neighborhoods that just feels good the moment you arrive, she knew this was the one. And even though it was the first weekend on the market, we didn’t expect we'd have competition. We found ourselves in a multiple-offer situation. With a little finagling, we won the home, and then got to work.

The inspection uncovered a long list of deferred maintenance, and there was no way I was going to let my first-time buyer shoulder those costs alone. I rolled up my sleeves, went to bat for her. After nearly two weeks of almost-daily back and forth, I negotiated nearly $15,000 in seller concessions so she could start this next chapter with more confidence and a little less stress.

But my favorite part?

At our final walk-through, she handed me a bag of homemade chicken tamales as a thank-you. Muchas gracias, Mija! (To quote one of my favorite comedians, Anjelah Johnson, I’m in my “Cool Tia” years, and we call everyone Mija or Mijo!)

Watching strong, determined women (especially women of color) build wealth, create stability, and open doors for themselves and their families makes me incredibly proud of her. ❤️
