Save the Redwoods has officially transferred ownership of the 125-acre ‘O Rew Redwoods Gateway to the Yurok Tribe , establishing a model for Indigenous-led conservation and landscape restoration.

Originally purchased in 2013 by the independent nonprofit, the former derelict sawmill site at the confluence of Prairie and Redwood creeks was transformed through a multi-agency partnership into a thriving wetland meadow and rewilded salmon habitat, complete with nearly half a million planted seedlings.

Beyond his practice at SMW, Andrew Schwartz is helping train the next generation of environmental lawyers at the Yale Law School Environmental Justice Law and Advocacy Clinic, where he has been teaching since 2024.

He trains law students in practical litigation skills, including discovery, expert witness practice, and trial strategy, while advising on strategy and reviewing briefs for both litigation and non-litigation environmental justice cases.

In a significant application of post-Chevron jurisprudence, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled in Committee for a Better Arvin v. EPA that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cannot consider economic or technological feasibility when evaluating state contingency measures under the Clean Air Act.

The case, brought by residents of Arvin, California, centered on whether the EPA could approve a nonattainment plan for the heavily polluted San Joaquin Valley that lacked robust backup pollution controls after deeming stricter measures infeasible.
