Refusing to pay child or spousal support isn't “teaching your ex a lesson.” It's creating a legal record of your own noncompliance.
If you believe the amount you're ordered to pay is unfair, your remedy isn't to simply stop paying. There are legal avenues for requesting a modification or challenging a support order — but ignoring the order can create serious consequences for you down the road.

Unpaid support can accumulate, lead to enforcement actions, and become part of the court's record when future issues arise.

TLDR: you may think you're punishing your ex, but you could be making your own legal situation much harder. 😬

If your financial circumstances have changed or you believe your support order needs to be revisited, talk to a family law attorney before taking matters into your own hands. ⚖️ Book a FREE consultation at the link in bio.

You might think, “I bought it, so I own it” – but not so fast. ✋🏽

When it comes to assets and divorce, when you acquired something can matter just as much as who paid for it.
Every situation is different. If you're unsure where you stand with your assets, talk to a family law attorney who can help you understand your specific circumstances. ⚖️ Link in bio.

We get it. You're frustrated. You want to defend yourself. You want people to know your side of the story.

But the moment your case becomes public, your posts, comments, photos, videos – even the ones you think are harmless – can become evidence.

From vacation photos, to not-so-subtle reposts, to private DMs – anything you share on social media can be used against you in court!

So our advice is always to stay offline during your case, and let your attorney do the talking in the courtroom. 🤫

So what’s REALLY necessary to share with us?

When you’re talking to your attorney, focus on the facts that could actually affect your case: what happened, when it happened, who was involved, what was said or done, and any relevant documents or evidence.

And yes — tell us the uncomfortable stuff, too. If it could be legally relevant, we need to know about it. Your attorney can’t help you with information they don’t have.

The goal isn’t to leave out the messy details. It’s to separate the legally relevant messy details from the ones that just make for a good story. 😉

Most people wait too long to talk to a divorce attorney. They try to “figure it out first,” keep the peace, or see if things will magically stabilize.
In reality, if you’re thinking about divorce, it’s already worth having a conversation and understanding your options.

If these red flags are popping up, it’s time to talk to an attorney:

🚩 Conversations with your spouse have turned into arguments about custody, money, or “what happens if we split”
🚩 One of you is already tracking finances, changing accounts, or controlling access to money
🚩 You’re worried about your safety or wellbeing if you stay together
🚩 You’re getting advice from friends, Google, or social media because you don’t know what your rights actually are
🚩 You know divorce is in your future, you just don’t know when you’ll pull the plug

You don't have to be ready to file for divorce to talk to an attorney. The more clarity you have on your rights and options, the better positioned you'll be if and when that day comes.

Navigating shared custody can be a challenge.

Some co-parents are better as friends, and operate in unison to give their child the best life possible. Others have tumultuous history, and their child would actually benefit from less collaboration.

What works in one family system may not work in another. So the question is: co-parenting, or parallel parenting? 🤔

The goal in any custody arrangement isn’t a perfectly harmonious relationship between the parents. 🙌🏽🌈 The focus is always on giving a child split between two homes as much stability, safety, and comfort as possible.

If you’re navigating custody or co-parenting decisions, speaking with a family law attorney can help clarify what structure fits your situation best.

This is one of the worst things you can do in preparation for divorce. 👀

Leaving your house tells the court a few things…

✍🏼 Asset division: Moving out of the house without clear, documented reasoning can be framed as abandonment of the property. You’ll lose a lot of leverage when it comes to who gets the house in the divorce.

✍🏼 Custody: If you have children, leaving them to move out is essentially establishing the other parent as the primary caregiver. Doing so can establish a temporary status quo that makes it much harder for you to argue for equal custody or primary residence when the time comes.

It can be tricky to navigate during separation or divorce, but staying in your house will actually help you later on.

Relationships deal with conflict – it’s inevitable. And in fact, it’s what differentiates strong couples from weak ones. The question isn’t “do we argue?”
It’s “how do we handle conflict when it shows up?”

Healthy conflict looks like: ❤️ Disagreements that stay focused on the issue, not personal attacks ❤️ Accountability on both sides, even when it’s uncomfortable ❤️ The ability to repair after tension, not just avoid it
Unhealthy conflict looks like: 💔 Constant blame, insults, or escalation 💔 Silence, avoidance, or punishment instead of communication 💔 Repeating the same patterns with no real change over time

Social media often pushes the idea that anything “hard” is toxic. But healthy relationships require effort, communication, and sometimes compromise.
That’s the difference.

If you’re dealing with unhealthy conflict more often than not, that’s when it may be time to reconsider the relationship’s longevity.
