It is unlawful for an employer to even attempt to enforce a non-compete agreement in California. In fact, an employer could be sued for requiring employees to sign a non-compete agreement or attempting to enforce it, including being required to pay attorney's fees. Often employees are concerned that their employers will try to enforce "non-compete" agreements and prevent them from finding new employment with a competitor or employer in the same industry. With very limited exceptions, California does not limit an employee's right to work and does not enforce non-compete agreements. It is always important for employers and employees to know the law.

Today is Equal Pay Day. It is a different day every year because it marks the day in 2026 that women have finally made the same amount our male colleagues made in 2025. On average, women earn only 81 cents to every dollar a man earns. That number is even lower for women of color. It is unacceptable and needs to change. It is illegal for employers to pay employees a different wage for “substantially same work” but enforcing those laws is difficult. Luckily, California is on the forefront of initiatives to ensure there is equal pay for equal work. The Dixon Firm is here to help advocate for equal pay and enforce the federal and state laws, as well as policy initiatives. Gender should never dictate your worth or rights.

Congratulations to Max Halpern on being selected a member of the Executive Committee and serving as Secretary for the San Diego Inn of Court. The San Diego Inn of Court provides hands-on trial and evidence training for lawyers in San Diego. Max has been a director on the San Diego Inn of Court Board for 3 years, volunteering his time to ensure lawyers are properly trained on essential trial skills.

Attorneys Allison Worden and Max Halpern represent a woman brutally attacked at the Lafayette Hotel. The case was featured by ABC 10News San Diego. Hotels have responsibility to prevent human trafficking, sexual assault, and abuse and to protect their guests by following basic safety protocols and procedures.
