If you're navigating a custody dispute, your text thread is often Exhibit A.

When emotions are running high, use the B.I.F.F. method before sending any message to an ex or co-parent:
B – Brief: Stick to the essential point. No essays.
I – Informative: Focus purely on dates, times, and logistics.
F – Friendly (or Neutral): Keep tone polite and professional. Avoid sarcasm.
F – Firm: Be clear about your boundary or answer without leaving room for endless back-and-forth.

What you say matters but in court, how you say it matters just as much.

Divorce may close one chapte but your estate plan needs to reflect the life you’re building next.

After a divorce, it’s important to review more than just your Will. Your trust, powers of attorney, advance directive, life insurance and retirement beneficiaries, and the way assets pass to your children may all need attention.

Your old estate plan was designed around a different family structure. Make sure your current plan reflects your current wishes, the people you trust, and the future you want to protect.

“Will the nursing home take my house?”

It is one of the most common concerns families have when they start thinking about long term care.

The answer is more complicated than yes or no. But with the right planning, certain irrevocable trusts can help protect a home and other assets while preparing for the possibility of future Medicaid funded long term care.

⏰ Timing matters. Georgia Medicaid generally applies a 60 month look back period to certain asset transfers. That means this is planning that should happen before a long term care crisis.

An irrevocable trust is not right for everyone. It requires giving up control of assets placed in the trust, and the structure has to fit your circumstances and goals.

If protecting your home and preserving assets for your family are part of your long term plan, it may be worth having the conversation now.
