Would you rather accept a lower offer and avoid a tax... or accept a higher offer and keep the same amount of money?
Thatâs exactly the challenge in this transaction.
The seller didnât want to pay New Jerseyâs mansion tax, even though our buyers submitted the highest offer. So instead of focusing on the sales price, we focused on what mattered most: the sellerâs net proceeds.
After some creative problem-solving, we found a way to structure the deal so the seller could accept the higher offer without ending up worse off financially.
This is why negotiation isnât just about offering more money. Itâs about understanding the other sideâs goals and creating solutions that make sense for everyone involved.
What would you have done in this situation? Would this strategy make sense to you?
