Homeownership is rarely easy: it is hard work, a huge responsibility, an investment of time and money, and it is also rewarding and satisfying. Eventually, a home can even become an asset.

Here is a deck that is probably over 50 years old. Boards were rotted out, and so were the screws and joists. The screws would break when trying to remove them. Some had rusted to almost nothing.

A new deck would have cost me well over 40k, whereas properly prepping the joists and replacing the boards will give me quite a few more years for a mere fraction of the cost. I did half the deck. Eventually, I will do the other half. A true DIY job that anyone can do with time, and a little patience.
