A motorcyclist lost his life Saturday afternoon on northbound I-15 near 10800 South in Draper.

According to Utah DPS, an SUV slowed for traffic around 1:21 PM. The motorcycle behind it skidded, struck the SUV, then collided with a pickup in the next lane. The rider passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital. No one else was hurt.

Our hearts are with his family and loved ones.

Traffic on I-15 can stop without warning. Leave extra space, and always look twice for riders.

A truck driver was caught on camera leaving the steering wheel again and again while his truck kept moving down the highway. Then the truck crashes.

A sixth grader in Illinois was crossing the road to her school bus at 6:55 a.m. The bus was stopped with its lights flashing and its stop arm out. Officials say a driver passed it anyway and hit her.

She survived with a traumatic brain injury and now needs 24-hour care.

Her family has accepted a $52 million settlement from the driver and two companies. About $39 million goes to her and $12.7 million is set aside for family expenses. The lawsuit against the bus company and the school district is still going, and the driver faces criminal charges.

When the stop arm is out, stop. Every time.

With school back in session, this is a massive wake-up call for drivers. Looking at your phone for even two seconds near a school crosswalk isn’t just a mistake—it can be fatal. Under Utah law, if you cause a death while negligently operating a vehicle and illegally using a wireless device, you can be charged with automobile homicide.

Depending on the level of negligence, this can be charged as a second or third-degree felony, carrying up to 15 years in prison. Utah strictly requires drivers to come to a complete stop at school crosswalks occupied by a crossing guard.
