Our law firm is proud to announce that its newest partner, Clara S. Bustamante, has been offered, and has accepted, an appointment to the Board of Directors (“BoD”) of the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance (“ULA”). The formal appointment, effective October 8, 2025, was made by AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler and Clara attended her first BoD meeting at the AFL-CIO’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. last week.
The ULA is a national organization of more than 2,100 union-side lawyers in more than 500 law firms and union legal departments around the country. Its BoD is comprised of the General Counsel for its national and international labor unions, plus a number of outside attorneys, such as Clara, with a national reputation for providing exemplary representation to their union clientele.
The ULA’s mission is to (1) facilitate the exchange of information and strategies to assist ULA members in representing their union clients; (2) inform and mobilize union-side lawyers in the labor movement’s support of legislative and political priorities, such as labor law reform, judicial nominations and voter protection; (3) offer legal education, technical assistance and networking opportunities to the union-side bar; and (4) assist ULA firms and legal departments in recruiting and retaining new lawyers and lawyers of color to the practice of labor law.
The AFL-CIO is a voluntary federation of 63 national and international labor unions and it represents nearly 15 million members. The mission of the AFL-CIO is to improve the lives of working families and to bring economic justice to the workplace and social justice to our nation. We are confident and excited that our colleague, Clara, will be sharing her insights and talents with our attorney colleagues around the country.
