We are proud supporters of Dawson High School because they are accepting, supportive, and caring for all their students. Dawson High School is an amazing example of the great things that can come from following God’s most important commandment, according to Jesus, which is Love thy neighbor as you would love yourself or the Islamic belief that Love for others what you love for yourself, and show concrete kindness to neighbors, strangers, and the vulnerable.
Different phrasing, same moral gravity. In both faith’s neighbor-love is not a warm feeling drifting through the heart. It is a practiced loyalty, a daily discipline, a proof of faith made visible in how one treats the people next door and the stranger on the road. Thank you Dawson Highschool!
Ramadan, which starts today, is a sacred month of fasting, reflection, and prayer for Muslim students. From dawn until sunset (approximately 4:30 AM – 8:30 PM in 2026), practicing students will refrain from food, water, and other sustenance as part of their spiritual commitment.
Key Considerations for Educators:
• Sleep & Energy Levels: Many students participate in late-night prayers and wake up as early as 4:00–4:30 AM for a pre-dawn meal (suhoor) and prayer. This may result in fatigue, lower energy, and difficulty concentrating, particularly in afternoon classes.
• Physical Impact: Extended fasting can lead to hunger, dehydration, and reduced stamina, which may affect participation in physical activities or cognitive tasks.
• Dates for 2026: Ramadan will be observed from Feb. 17 – March 20 (dates shift yearly based on the lunar calendar).
How You Can Support Students:
• Be mindful of energy levels and offer flexibility when possible.
• Provide a quiet space for students who prefer to rest during lunch.
• Encourage an atmosphere of understanding and inclusivity by acknowledging their efforts and being considerate of their needs.
Your awareness and support can make a meaningful difference in helping students balance their faith and education. Thank you for fostering an inclusive and compassionate learning environment!
