Welcome to TaxFort, the place where business owners don't have to explain to their tax pro why cash flow looks different every month, why "profit" and "money in the bank" aren't the same number, or what Square, Stripe and the cash drawer have to do with each other. We already know.

We sincerely believe protecting your business should feel like having a fort around it — and that dealing with your bookkeeping, payroll and taxes doesn't have to be the worst part of your week. 😅

Ser el jefe no siempre es glamoroso. Pero el puesto tiene sus ventajas. 😏

If you tuned into a livestream of our office right now, you'd catch the whole team doing a happy dance for a good tax change. 🥳

The Form 1099-NEC threshold for payments made in 2026 went UP — from $600 to $2,000.

Translation: if your business paid a contractor, freelancer or other nonemployee less than $2,000 for services this year, you may not be required to send them a 1099 in January. Fewer forms. Fewer late nights. Fewer "wait, what's his address again?" texts.

But what does it mean for you right now? ↓

✅ Keep collecting W-9s from every contractor — before you pay them, not in January
✅ Keep tracking exactly how much you pay each one (your bookkeeping does this for you, if it's current)
✅ Then hope for at least one fewer form to file in 2027 😜

And if "tracking how much you pay each one" sounds like a spreadsheet you don't have — that's bookkeeping, and that's us. We'll get your contractor payments clean now so January is a non-event. Call your office or book at mytaxfort.com. English y español. 🏰

We don't just hit "file" and hope for the best. We back up our work — and that includes the tedious, time-consuming part nobody wants: dealing with the IRS. 🙃

Swipe for two battles — composites of real cases we handle every season, details changed. A penalty that got wiped. A "balance due" that was really the IRS misplacing a payment. Both resolved because we knew exactly how the return was prepared and exactly what we'd documented to back it up.

That's what "fort" means. Audit assistance is included on every single return we file, not sold as an add-on. So if an IRS or state notice lands in your mailbox: don't panic, don't call the number on the letter, don't pay anything yet. Forward it to us. We've got your back. 🫡

Friendly reminder to file the tax return you extended months ago before your third cafecito today. ☕

October 15 is next week. If you extended your personal return (or your C corp's), that's the last stop — and if you owe, interest has been quietly running since April, so every day counts.

Not ready? That's what we're here for. Call your office or upload your documents at mytaxfort.com and we'll tell you exactly what's missing. English y español. 🏰

Nobody invests hoping to lose money. 📉 But if something in your portfolio did lose value this year, selling it strategically could be one of the smartest tax moves you make before December 31.

It's called tax loss harvesting. Sell the loser in a taxable account, realize the loss, and use it to cancel out gains — plus up to $3,000 of regular income. Anything left rolls forward to next year. Swipe for the 101.

WAIIIIT. 🛑 Before you start buying and selling like crazy for the tax benefits: if you buy the same thing back within 30 days, the IRS throws the loss out. That's a wash sale, and it happens by accident constantly. Loop in your tax pro and your financial advisor first — we'll make sure the move actually counts.

Have a taxable brokerage account and haven't looked at it with a tax lens this year? That's a 15-minute conversation. Book at mytaxfort.com or call your office. English y español. 🏰

You're tired of tax deadlines. We're tired of tax deadlines. 😴

So let's get through the last ones of the year together, and then — honestly — the finish line is right there.

🏁 October 15: extended personal returns (Form 1040) and extended calendar-year C corp returns (Form 1120). That's it. That's the list.

If you extended and haven't sent us your documents, this is the week. Not because we'll lecture you (we won't), but because interest on anything you owe has been running since April, and every day you wait makes the number bigger.

After the 15th we're officially hibernating until 1099 season… kidding. We pick up in November too — that's the whole point of us. But we will be a lot more relaxed. 🏰

It's October. Here's how the rest of your tax year looks, in weeks: ⏳

1 → extended personal and C corp returns due October 15
8 → the last comfortable window to book a tax planning meeting before December
12 → year-end, and the deadline for most tax-saving moves
14 → Q4 estimated taxes due January 15
17 → W-2s and 1099s due February 1

The one that matters most is the 8. Everything after year-end is just filing what already happened — October and November are the last weeks where a planning meeting can still change the number.

No Tax on Overtime sounds like an insanely good tax hack for workaholics…

Unfortunately, it's a little more nuanced than that! Swipe to learn the truth. 👉

Here's the short version:

⏰ It's not "no tax." It's a deduction — up to $12,500 a year ($25,000 if married filing jointly) — that lowers your taxable income. Your overtime still shows up on your W-2 and gets taxed at first; the deduction comes back on your return.

💵 It's only the "extra" part. If you earn $20 an hour and $30 for overtime, only the $10 premium qualifies — not the whole $30. That's a smaller number than most people expect.

🧾 Social Security and Medicare still apply. The deduction is for federal income tax only. Payroll taxes come out of every overtime dollar, same as always.

📉 There's an income limit. The deduction starts shrinking above $150,000 ($300,000 joint). Work enough overtime to blow past that and the benefit fades.

📅 It's temporary. Tax years 2025 through 2028, unless Congress extends it.

So is it worth working the extra shifts? Financially, sure — you still keep most of what you earn. Just don't do it for the tax break. Do it for the paycheck, and let us make sure the deduction actually lands on your return.

Overtime earner? Bring your W-2 in and we'll show you what it's really worth. English y español. 🏰
