Catherine Davey began doing pro bono in 1997. In that time, she has accepted 93 cases, most of which are guardianship cases. She has reported 400+ hours on these cases. She also trains Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association, Inc. staff attorneys and other pro bono attorneys. She participates in community education events on guardianship topics and currently has 11 open pro bono cases. One of her open cases has been ongoing since 2009. Legal aid staff says that “to know Catherine is to know what an incredible advocate she is for families of those with special needs. That advocacy extends to our pro bono cases too!”

In recognition of National Child Welfare Workforce Appreciation Month, we want to take a moment to celebrate and thank the incredible people who show up every day to advocate for children and families.

To our Volunteer Advocates for Children, GAL attorneys, staff, directors, case coordinators, and everyone who works behind the scenes to support advocacy efforts: thank you for the time, compassion, and dedication you bring to each child you serve. Your willingness to visit, listen, learn, speak up, and ensure that a child’s needs and wishes remain at the center of the conversation makes a meaningful difference. Your advocacy matters, and the impact of your service extends far beyond what can always be seen. Child welfare work is truly a team effort, and each person plays an important role in ensuring that children have a voice and that their best interests remain a priority.
