🔥 TRENDING THURSDAY

You’ve probably seen the Hotel Lobby AI trend all over your feed—AI can now take just a couple of photos and create a surprisingly realistic video of someone doing something they never actually did. 🤯

It’s entertaining when everyone involved is in on the joke.

But during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, it’s worth talking about the other side of technology:

📱 Accessing a partner’s accounts without permission
📍 Tracking their location
💬 Repeated threatening or intimidating messages
👤 Impersonating them online
📸 Using or sharing their images without consent

Technology can be used to entertain—but it can also be used to monitor, intimidate, embarrass, or control someone.

💜 Abuse doesn’t always happen face-to-face.

If digital behavior is making you feel threatened, controlled, or unsafe, save the evidence and consider speaking with a family violence resource or attorney about your options.

📲 Follow us throughout October as we continue sharing domestic violence awareness content, warning signs, legal information, and resources.

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and one common question is: What happens if your spouse or partner hits you, but you don’t want them arrested or prosecuted?

In Texas, once law enforcement becomes involved, the decision about what happens next may no longer be entirely up to the victim.
🚓 If officers investigate and believe family violence occurred, an arrest may be made based on the circumstances and probable cause, even if the victim does not want to “press charges.”
⚖️ After an arrest, a magistrate may issue an Emergency Protective Order to help protect the alleged victim and, in some cases, other household members. These orders can remain in effect for a limited period of time depending on the circumstances.
🏛️ From there, the prosecutor—not the victim—decides whether criminal charges will move forward. A victim’s wishes can be important, but they do not automatically control whether the case is dismissed or prosecuted.
💡 That’s because family violence cases are handled as criminal matters involving the State, not simply as a private dispute between two people.

If you are experiencing family violence, consider contacting a local family violence organization for safety planning and support. You may also want to speak with an attorney to understand protective orders, custody concerns, and other legal options that may be available.

💜 During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, it’s important to remember that abuse doesn’t always happen face-to-face. Threats sent through a phone, social media, or other digital platforms can still be serious—and in some situations, they may have legal consequences.
📱 Digital threats can include:
⚠️ Threatening text messages, direct messages, emails, or social media posts
💻 Repeated unwanted online contact intended to frighten, harass, or intimidate
📲 Multiple threatening communications that may rise to the level of harassment or stalking depending on the circumstances
🚨 Conduct that causes someone to reasonably fear for their safety or feel alarmed, abused, or tormented

A message does not have to be delivered in person to be taken seriously. Save the evidence. Screenshots, text messages, voicemails, emails, usernames, dates, and times may all become important if legal action is needed.

If you are experiencing threats or abusive behavior, consider contacting a local family violence organization for safety planning and support. You may also want to speak with an attorney about protective orders and other legal options that may be available.

🚨 If your spouse or partner has hit you, threatened you, or committed family violence, the fact that they were never arrested does not necessarily mean you are without legal options. ⚖️

In Texas, a civil protective order is separate from a criminal prosecution, and the Court may consider whether family violence occurred even if no arrest was ever made.

A few things to know:
⚖️ A protective order is a civil matter and is handled differently from a criminal assault case.
🚔 An arrest is not required for someone to request a protective order.
🕰️ Past incidents can still matter. The amount of time that has passed may affect how the Court evaluates the circumstances and the appropriate length of protection.
🛡️ Protective orders can vary in duration depending on the facts of the case and the Court’s findings.
📄 Most importantly, each situation is different, and the specific facts and available evidence matter.

If you have questions about your options or whether a protective order may be appropriate in your situation, our office can help you understand the next steps.

💜 Domestic violence doesn’t always look like hitting, pushing, or slapping. Abuse can take many forms, and some of them are easier to overlook or minimize.
During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we want to help bring attention to behaviors that may still be abusive, threatening, or unsafe.

Examples can include:
🧱 Throwing objects at you or in your direction — even if they never make contact
📱 Making threats through text messages, social media, online messages, or in person
🤚 Unwanted grabbing, including grabbing an arm or physically restraining someone
⚠️ Unwanted or forced sexual contact
🚪 Physical intimidation, such as using objects, doors, walls, or body positioning to frighten or hurt someone

Domestic violence can involve physical harm, threats, intimidation, coercion, or controlling behavior. The circumstances matter, but no one should feel unsafe in their own relationship.

If you are experiencing abuse, your safety comes first. Consider contacting a local family violence agency or shelter for immediate support and safety planning. You may also want to speak with an attorney about protective orders and other legal options that may be available to help protect you and your family.

📚⚖️ Access to information matters but so does access to accurate information.

In honor of International Day for Universal Access to Information, we’re clearing up a few legal myths that get repeated so often people assume they’re automatically true.

In today’s video: 3 things people think are illegal…but may not be. 👀

🎥 Recording in a public place
📞 Recording certain phone conversations
🚗 Driving by someone’s home—even more than once

The law is often more nuanced than what you hear online, and context matters. Something may not be automatically illegal simply because it feels uncomfortable or unusual but the surrounding circumstances can still affect how the law applies.

That’s exactly why reliable legal information matters. 💡⚖️

Watch the video to learn more, and remember: don’t let social media myths become your legal advice.
