We are excited to welcome two incredible attorneys to the team at Fuerza Immigration Lawyers LLP.

Camila Carrera joined our firm in November 2025 and has already become an integral part of our practice. Camila began her immigration career as a paralegal and recently earned her Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law. Since joining Fuerza, she has been conducting client consultations and developing legal strategies in Asylum, VAWA, U Visa, and family-based cases. She has also successfully represented a client during two ICE check-ins where there was a real concern about potential detention. Camila’s legal writing has been exceptional, and she has quickly become a key contributor to complex case strategy and motion practice. Her dedication, calm presence with clients, and strong advocacy skills have already made her a trusted member of our team.

We are also thrilled to welcome Marlene Lara, who joined the firm this month. Marlene brings valuable experience representing individuals and families in immigration matters, including appearing before the Immigration Court and working on cases such as asylum, family-based petitions, and adjustments of status. She has already hit the ground running by taking the lead on many of the firm’s Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) cases, meeting with clients to develop asylum declarations, and assisting the partners with legal research and case strategy. Her commitment to immigrant communities and thoughtful approach to client representation make her a wonderful addition to the firm.

At Fuerza Immigration Lawyers LLP, we are continuing to grow and are hiring an experienced bilingual Associate Immigration Attorney. We are a women led firm built around client centered advocacy, collaboration, and long term sustainability in immigration law. Our work is demanding, but it is also deeply meaningful. A little late on the holiday post, but still very much worth sharing. As we wrapped up 2025, I felt incredibly proud of this team and the work we do together every day. This past year demanded a lot from those of us practicing immigration law, navigating constant change, high stakes, and the real human impact behind every case. Through it all, this group showed up with commitment, skill, and deep care for the immigrant communities we serve.

This photo captures just a moment, but behind it is a year of defending immigrants, keeping families together, and standing alongside our clients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. None of that work happens without teamwork, trust, and resilience.

As we head into the year ahead, we are focused, energized, and ready to continue this work with the same dedication and purpose. Grateful for this team and excited for what’s ahead.

Incredibly proud of this dynamic team! Celebrating all of the successes of 2024 and looking forward to the future. Great news for work-authorized individuals! 🌟 USCIS has announced an increase of the automatic extension period (during renewal) for certain work permits from 180 days up to 540 days. USCIS has quietly implemented a more generous policy allowing for emergency international travel for those who have pending asylum and U visa applications. In the past, USCIS resisted providing these permits to those immigrants who entered without permission. USCIS has begun to issue travel permits based on urgent humanitarian reasons, employment, and educational reasons, to this class of people. The travel document (called an advance parole document) can be requested during an in-person appointment at a local USCIS office to ensure it is received in time for the trip (for example, to visit an ill relative or attend a funeral). Travel by a primary asylum applicant to his or her country of nationality can negatively impact the asylum application itself, however.

USCIS ha implementado discretamente una política más generosa que permite viajes internacionales de emergencia para aquellos con solicitudes pendientes de asilo y Visa U. Aunque antes se resistían a dar estos permisos a inmigrantes quien habían entrado sin permiso, ahora otorgan permisos por razones humanitarias urgentes, empleo y educación a esa categoria de persona. El documento de viaje (nombrado "Advance Parole Document) puede solicitarse durante una cita en persona en una oficina local de USCIS, para poder recibirlo a tiempo para el viaje (por ejemplo, para visitar a un familiar enfermo o asistir a un funeral). Sin embargo, viajar al país de origen para un solicitante de asilo principal puede afectar negativamente la solicitud.
