I was honored to stand with Mario Willis during a thirteen-day evidentiary hearing that unfolded over two months in a case that has drawn significant public and media attention.

Mr. Willis was wrongfully convicted of second-degree murder and arson stemming from a tragic 2008 Detroit house fire that claimed the life of beloved firefighter Walter Harris. A loss like that is devastating, and it should never be compounded by convicting an innocent man.

Working alongside Craig Daly, we exposed how the original fire investigation was unscientific and unreliable. A qualified fire origin and cause expert testified that the only reasonable conclusion was “undetermined,” a finding that does not support an arson conviction.

As this high-profile hearing progressed, WDIV Local 4 News closely followed the testimony, including my cross-examination of the prosecution’s expert. That coverage helped shine a light on witnesses and evidence the jury never heard during the 2010 trial, including admissions that the science used to secure the conviction does not hold up.

The case against Mr. Willis rested largely on the testimony of Darian Dove, who admitted under oath that he is a pathological liar and told others the fire was accidental. Today, that truth is finally on the record.

We are now awaiting a decision on the motion for a new trial. That will take time. But accountability has begun, and the public now sees what was hidden for far too long.

I am deeply grateful to Maxine Willis for trusting me to help expose the junk science that led to this miscarriage of justice.

As a proud member of the State of Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission, I had the honor of attending Kronk Boxing’s June 4 press conference — a momentous event hosted by Mayor Mike Duggan, Police Chief Todd Bettison, and Council President Mary Sheffield.

Kronk Boxing, Detroit’s legendary 5th franchise and the training ground for 41 world champions is officially returning home. Its new training center will rise inside the historic Brewster-Wheeler Recreation Center, where boxing legend Joe Louis once trained.

This is more than just a gym reopening — it’s the revival of a Detroit legacy that has inspired generations. With the support of city leaders and the Kronk team, this move is set to shape the lives of future champions — both in and out of the ring.

ABC News' Linsey Davis spoke with Alexandre Ansari, who was falsely convicted of murdering a 15-year-old girl. After serving almost seven years of a life sentence in prison, he's now been freed.

Mueller Law Firm is pleased to have been able to secure $1.75M compensation from the State of Michigan for Louis Wright, now 65, for his 35-year wrongful conviction for the r**e of a young girl. With help from the Cooley Innocence Project and the Conviction Integrity Unit of the Michigan Attorney General’s Office, a DNA test in 2023 excluded Mr. Wight as the culprit. He was exonerated in November 2023 and was able to spend his first Christmas home with family since Ronald Reagan was president. A civil suit against the police detective who made up a “confession” is pending. MLF attorney, Wolf Mueller, said, “We will get to the bottom of how this travesty of justice could have occurred, so it doesn’t happen in the future.”

Louis Wright spent 35 years in a Michigan prison for a crime he didn't commit. The state will now pay him for that time.

The Mueller Law Firm is honored to have been retained by Louis Wright to seek justice after the 65-year-old man’s 1988 criminal sexual conduct conviction was dismissed on November 9, 2023. Mr. Wright, now 65, served 35 years in prison for the r**e of a young girl he did not commit. A decade-long effort by the WMU-Cooley Innocence Project and the work of the Michigan Attorney General Office’s Conviction Integrity Unit led to previously untested evidence from the victim’s r**e kit. DNA testing by Michigan State Police forensic analysts excluded Mr. Wright as the source of the male DNA. The original police detective for the City of Albion Police Department also reported that boot prints found outside the girl’s home were “identical” to the boots worn by Mr. Wright. But MSP testing one week after the crime concluded that the plaster casts made of the perpetrator’s boot prints “could not have been made by [Mr. Wright’s] boots.”

The lead detective claimed that Mr. Wright confessed to the crime, providing details that only the perpetrator would have known. But the “confession” was not recorded, and there was no signed or even written confession-- simply the detective’s report of what he claimed Mr. Wright admitted. Given the DNA testing excluding Mr. Wright, he could not have known any of the details of the crime, a crime committed by a single perpetrator.

The Mueller Law Firm will seek compensation for Mr. Wright under Michigan’s Wrongful Imprisonment Compensation Act (WICA), which provides $50,000 for each year of wrongful incarceration. We will also seek to hold accountable those who framed Mr. Wright and caused this terrible injustice.
