Hearing the words “removal proceedings” can be terrifying. But breaking past the legal jargon is the first step to defending your life in the United States.
Simply put, removal proceedings are immigration court cases; what most people refer to as a deportation case. While anyone without legal status can be placed in these proceedings, it’s a little-known fact that even lawful permanent residents or visa holders can find themselves in immigration court under certain circumstances.
If you or a loved one receives a Notice to Appear (NTA), remember: this is the start of a legal process, not the final word. You have the right to present a defense, apply for relief, and have an expert advocate in your corner.
Don’t navigate the court system alone. Timing is everything when it comes to your defense.
