📢 It is not “just” images: the lasting impact of image-based child s*xual abuse

New research from Lapsia (Protect Children), funded by Safe Online, draws on an anonymous international survey of adult survivors, available in 11 languages. Among the 70 respondents who experienced image-based child s*xual violence:

🟠 85% say the abuse affected their lives, and 47% describe the impact as significant or devastating
🟠 69% experienced anxiety, sadness, or difficulty with daily activities
🟠 Almost half experienced further s*xual violence

For many, the impact continued long into adulthood, affecting relationships, education, work, and health.

📢 A New York jury has awarded our client, J.M., $11.3 million, holding Riverside Church accountable for its role in the s*xual abuse he endured as a teenager. J.M. was just 14 years old when he was abused by Riverside’s longtime basketball coach, Ernest “Ernie” Lorch. After decades of waiting, this verdict marks a significant step toward justice. ⚖️

👏 We’re incredibly proud of our Senior Associate Attorney Cori Iacopelli and her work representing J.M. in his pursuit of justice.⁠

Reflecting on the verdict, Cori said:
“Riverside Church had a responsibility to protect the children entrusted to its care. Instead, it provided Lorch with the access and institutional support that enabled his abuse, and failed to take accountability for the harm inflicted on J.M.”

She also added:
“This $11.3 million verdict is a measure of justice for J.M. and a powerful affirmation that the passage of time does not erase an institution’s responsibility for the harm it has caused. The scale of New York’s Child Victims Act litigation tells a story that cannot be ignored.

🔍 In a new investigation, The 74 examined nearly 2,000 child s*x abuse claims naming New York schools, educators and district personnel.

Marsh Law Firm has represented more than 1,000 Child Victims Act plaintiffs, and partners James R. Marsh and Helene M. Weiss shared their perspectives with The 74 on the ongoing fight for justice and accountability.

James highlighted the scope of the problem:
“The fact that there were so many cases in so many different places really illustrates the scope of this problem, both historically and ongoing. This is a problem that has not gone away.”

Helene addressed the impact of confidential settlements:
“They can discourage other survivors from coming forward, shield institutions from accountability and prevent communities from understanding whether misconduct is isolated or systemic.”

📢 No one should have to fear that seeking medical care could mean having their trust violated. 💔

⚖️ This week, Marsh Law filed a lawsuit on behalf of three women alleging s*xual abuse by Brooklyn fertility specialist Dr. Richard V. Grazi while they were seeking fertility and reproductive care. The complaint alleges that Dr. Grazi exploited his position of trust and medical authority, s*xually abusing the plaintiffs under the guise of medical examinations.

🏥 The lawsuit also names Maimonides Medical Center and Genesis Fertility & Reproductive Medicine, P.C. as defendants. The complaint alleges that the institutions provided Dr. Grazi with facilities, staff and institutional authority through which he accessed patients, and that they knew or should have known about concerns surrounding his conduct.

As Helene M. Weiss, partner at Marsh Law Firm, said:
“Our clients went to a fertility doctor at one of the most vulnerable times in their lives, trusting him to care for them. Instead, he used medical care as cover for s*xual abuse, and the institutions around him failed to protect them.”

The plaintiffs are asking the court for permission to proceed anonymously because of the highly sensitive nature of the allegations. As Helene said:

👉“Accountability shouldn’t cost a survivor her privacy, no matter how powerful the doctor or the institutions behind him.”

👉 Survivors whose childhood images were exploited deserve to know what happened to those images, and whether they were ever possessed and/or shared.

👩‍⚖️ In Ward v. Indyke, Marsh Law Firm and AWK Survivor Advocate Attorneys fought to ensure CSAM survivors were carved out of a proposed settlement with Jeffrey Epstein’s Estate, preserving their ability to pursue their claims.

Now, that work continues with a new lawsuit filed on behalf of two survivors alleges that Epstein possessed, transported, produced and distributed CSAM depicting countless children. The lawsuit seeks a court-supervised program to identify and notify survivors whose images may have been part of the collection.

As Marsh Law Firm partner Margaret Mabie told The Guardian:

“To our knowledge, none of the victims identified in that report, or in any other CSAM discovered in Epstein’s collection, have ever received notice.” ❌

The lawsuit’s goal, as AWK’s Hillary Nappi put it, is “accountability and identification.”

Survivors deserve to know if their images were exploited. They deserve the opportunity to understand what happened and to seek justice. ⚖️

Two women who filed suit against Epstein estate ask court to order program to notify potential victims

🔍 A new investigation by The New York Times, with research from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, found that known child s*xual abuse material (CSAM) continues to appear on X despite the platform’s stated “zero tolerance” policy.

The findings included:
👉 75+ images of previously identified CSAM found on X between January and June 2026
👉 65 instances where Grok generated s*xualized or exploitative images of children
👉 Users prompting Grok to s*xualize images of known child s*xual abuse victims

The technology to detect known CSAM already exists. Platforms have a responsibility to use these tools effectively, remove abusive content, and prevent the continued victimization of children and survivors.
