ministrative and federal appeals, matters related to detention and bond proceedings, and other complex legal issues. As a team of bilingual lawyers, we are committed to zealously advocating on behalf of our clients, both through our legal representation in individual cases and by contributing to social justice efforts on behalf of the immigrant community more broadly. Some battles for asylum are particularly long and hard fought. Both of this week’s asylum victories began in places of despair: for one, captivity in a detention facility across the country under horrific conditions; for the other, a removal order already issued against her. Many years and many court filings later, both of these cases are ending with tears of joy and relief. So many congratulations to these guerreras, these survivors of the most vicious things humans can do, for never giving up esperanza.

We are excited to celebrate SIX immigration court victories in the last two weeks!! Our clients have reached the end of very long and hard-fought legal journeys. Two of our clients were back in immigration court after successful appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals! Against all odds, all six clients are now done with their removal proceedings and on the path to lawful permanent residency in the United States. Congratulations to our clients - you have been fighters this whole time, and it’s been an honor to work with you. Tina Colón Williams Yazmin Rodriguez

“Some legal battles are fought and won quickly; others require a LOT of patience and perseverance to see the end. This week, we are celebrating a long, slow, hard-fought victory for our client - a Central American mother who was denied asylum in court five years ago after a hearing with some pretty shoddy lawyering (it happens more frequently than you think). The judge said she didn’t suffer persecution. We appealed, and the Board surprised us all by saying the judge was wrong, of course she did. The case was sent back to the judge, and after six months of waiting, we have a new decision confirming what we fought for all along - our client is a survivor, and she is not lying when she says she is afraid, and she is elegible for asylum. She is now on her way to becoming a lawful permanent resident of the United States. We are so proud of our relentless advocacy in this case, and of the perseverance of the families we represent. Congratulations, Katerine!!! Tina Colón Williams

“Every once in a while, we come to court expecting a fight, and we encounter some grace and mercy instead. We are proud to be a firm that always goes to court for our clients well-prepared to fight hard for their protection in every case that comes to us. We’ve learned never to do anything halfway, and it makes a difference! Congratulations to our clients for their swift asylum victory this week.”

Almost the end of October and we have not lost a single asylum case. Each battle is incredibly hard-fought and costly. But the joy on the other side of an asylum win is worth it all. Congratulations to all the survivors who have won asylum this past year!
