Meet Immigration Attorney, Elizabeth Wood! 💙

My name is Elizabeth Wood and I am an attorney here at The E.A. Wood Law Firm. I began my immigration journey in 2006 as a paralegal, inspired by the powerful moments of reuniting families and helping clients build secure, stable futures in the United States. After becoming an attorney in 2015, I opened E.A. Wood Law Firm in 2018 and have been honored to advocate for individuals, families, and businesses ever since.

As a proud adoptive mom of four, I understand firsthand just how important family unity and opportunity truly are. That passion drives my work every day—I help clients navigate the often complex immigration process by keeping them informed every step of the way and personally accompanying them to their USCIS interviews so they are never alone. I also work closely with businesses—many of them immigrant family-owned—to help them retain and hire the foreign talent they need to continue growing and succeeding. Even in today’s challenging immigration climate, I remain committed to fighting for my clients and their futures.

I am a proud member of the New Bern Chamber of Commerce, the Craven County Bar Association, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association. I am admitted to practice in the State Bars of California and North Carolina, as well as before the United States Supreme Court.

Outside the office, you’ll find me spending time with my husband, hanging out with my chocolate lab Buddy, or enjoying the golf course or walking along the beach.

Meet Attorney Isa Gratacós-Padró! ✨

My name is Isa Gratacós Padro and I am an attorney here at The EA Wood Law Firm with over 20 years of legal experience, I bring both skill and heart to everything I do. I earned my Juris Doctor from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, graduating magna cm laude, in 2002, and I was admitted to the Puerto Rico Bar soon after. I am also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico—so yes, I’m the real deal.

Over the years, I have handled everything from complex commercial litigation and bankruptcy cases to foreclosures, workouts, and tax law. But my true passion today is immigration law. I love helping individuals and families navigate their immigration journeys and being there for them during some of the most meaningful (and sometimes stressful) moments of their lives.

I strive to bring warmth, dedication, and no-nonsense advocacy to every case. I take the time to really listen, explain things clearly, and fight hard for the people I represent—all while making sure they feel supported every step of the way.
Outside the office, I am just as involved. I participate in pro bono initiatives, serve on the Board of Trustees of The Epiphany School of Global Studies, and am a member of the Board of Directors of Merci Clinic and the Craven Literacy Council. I am also active in AILA, the Puerto Rico Bar Association, the Craven County Bar Association, and the New Bern Chamber of Commerce.

I speak five languages—English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese—which helps me connect with clients from all over the world.

When I’m not working, I am a proud wife of 25 years and a mom of three, including a service member and two college students. I enjoy caring for my plants, reading, and exploring different cultures through films, series, and documentaries.

Good News Friday 💙

Today, we are celebrating several wins for our clients. This week we are happy to share:

✔ 2 DACA Renewal approvals
✔ 1 Employment Authorization Card approval

This Good News Friday is especially meaningful to us. Yesterday, we received a call that one of our clients—who has been detained since August 2025—is finally coming home. After nearly a year in immigration detention, separated from loved ones and living in uncertainty, the client is being released. Moments like this stay with you.

They remind us why this work matters.

But they also raise a harder truth.

No one should have to spend months—or years—behind bars simply navigating an immigration case. Detention is often used as a default, not a last resort. People are held far from their families, with limited access to counsel, facing a system that can feel impossibly stacked against them. The cost—human, emotional, and legal—is enormous.

And yet, we keep fighting. Because behind every case is a person. A family. A future worth defending. Because giving up would mean accepting a system that too often forgets the humanity of the people inside it.

This release is a moment of relief—but it is also a reminder of how much work remains.

To our clients still waiting: we see you, we stand with you, and we will not stop.
We are called not to lose hope—not because the system makes it easy, but because people’s lives depend on it.

Immigration Update: New USCIS Policy on Green Card Applications

USCIS has issued a new memo impacting adjustment of status cases.

We understand updates like this can feel concerning, but here’s the key takeaway:
👉 The law has not changed
👉 You still have options
👉 It’s too early to know how this will be fully applied

Our team is monitoring this closely and will continue to guide our clients with thoughtful, individualized strategies.

If you'd like to review your case and options, we’re here to help.
