At the 2025 Value-Based Care Forum, Juliette Price of HSG (Helgerson Solutions Group) outlined a clear reality: value-based care is no longer theoretical, it is a structural shift reshaping how care is delivered and paid for.

At its core, value-based care is a reimbursement approach that rewards providers for quality and outcomes rather than volume of services, with payments tied to performance measures and providers sharing in both financial risk and reward. That shift is playing out across all levels of adoption, from fee-for-service models linked to quality metrics to arrangements that place providers at full financial risk through population-based payments such as capitation or global budgets.

With nearly a third of payments already tied to downside risk, and mandatory models pushing adoption forward, the pace of change is only increasing.

The next inflection point will depend heavily on commercial payors, which cover a significant portion of the population but remain among the slowest adopters. As healthcare costs continue to rise, pressure is building for broader participation in value-based models.

For providers, the takeaway is straightforward: preparation is no longer optional. View the full Keynote Address here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8jZoWDTiUo

Nelson Mullins is proud to have supported City of Refuge, Inc. in bringing its new Transformation Center to life in Atlanta. The 37,000-square-foot facility expands access to critical resources including mental health services, entrepreneurship support, fresh food access, and affordable housing.

Over more than three years, our team provided comprehensive real estate pro bono counsel across all phases of the project. The effort was led by Andy Litvak and Abe Kannof, who have each worked alongside City of Refuge for more than a decade.

“This project represents what’s possible when committed partners come together to invest in a community’s future,” said Litvak. “We were honored to support City of Refuge in bringing the Transformation Center to life. It’s an initiative that not only delivers critical resources and affordable housing but also helps strengthen and revitalize a historic Atlanta neighborhood for generations to come.”

This milestone reflects the power of sustained collaboration and marks a meaningful step forward for Atlanta’s Westside. Read more: https://www.nelsonmullins.com/insights/news/press_releases/nelson-mullins-pro-bono-effort-helps-bring-atlanta-s-city-of-refuge-transformation-center-to-life

Pro bono work has the power to create lasting change, and Miami associate Samuel Ludington is helping lead that impact.

Recently featured by the University of Miami School of Law following his receipt of the Equal Justice Pro Bono Rising Star Award from Legal Services of Greater Miami, Sam has played a key role in expanding access to legal representation for families navigating special education challenges.

Through a partnership with Legal Services of Greater Miami and several law firms, Sam has supported families working to secure legally required accommodations for their children, efforts that can shape a student’s future both in and out of the classroom.

“Success in these cases can change the trajectory of a student’s academic and personal life,” Sam shared. “It has been particularly rewarding helping parents who are trying their hardest to ensure their children are afforded the necessary accommodations for success.”

Sam’s work reflects the meaningful role pro bono service plays in strengthening communities and expanding access to opportunity. Learn more: https://www.nelsonmullins.com/insights/news/in_the_news/sam-ludington-featured-by-university-of-miami-school-of-law-following-pro-bono-award-recognition

Nelson Mullins is proud to recognize our West Virginia team for their continued commitment to pro bono service.

Thanks to their volunteer work with Tuesday Legal Connect and the Legal Aid of West Virginia Wills Clinic in Logan, West Virginia on Veterans Day, the firm recorded the most pro bono hours of any firm last quarter, as highlighted in West Virginia Lawyer Magazine.

Tuesday Legal Connect is a weekly two-hour session where volunteer attorneys from across the state take calls from individuals seeking legal assistance and guidance. The program is operated by The West Virginia State Bar and supported by Legal Aid of West Virginia, helping connect communities with essential legal resources.

Special thanks to Eric Salyers and Lacy Stafford for their work at the Wills Clinic, and to Noah Clark, Timur Dikec, Melissa Foster Bird, Thomas Hancock, Kendra Huff, Robert Massie, Shaina Massie, Owen Reynolds, Marc Williams, Bob Coffield, and Jonah Samples for their contributions through Tuesday Legal Connect.

Cybersecurity enforcement often comes down to a simple question: where is federal money involved?

In this clip, Bart Daniel, Matt Austin, and David Yang discuss how the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is using the False Claims Act to pursue cybersecurity-related cases tied to Department of Defense (DoD) contracts and other federal funding. When compliance certifications are connected to payment, enforcement risk increases.

Through its Civil Cyber-Fraud Initiative, the DOJ has made clear that cybersecurity is a fraud priority, not just a technical one. Contractors should understand how their representations, internal assessments, and reporting decisions may be evaluated if scrutiny arises.

For companies receiving federal funds or performing work under government contracts, proactive legal guidance can help assess exposure and strengthen compliance before issues escalate.
