Comings and goings…this is a reenactment of the Revolutionary War Siege of Ninety Six, a 28 day siege against the earthen Star Fort in May-June 1781.
We are playing the Loyalists (bad guys) and fending off an assault by the Patriots (good guys).
While our dress was modern, our hearts were back yonder. Packing musket balls and fearing the clever Polish engineer, Col. Thaddeus Kosciuszko, who the showed the Patriots how to build a sniper tower, we gave-’em what for.
At the end, my boys got their Ranger badges. Important. And swore an oath to protect the land. Very important.
It was hot, and I’m not jealous of our troops back in the day. Credit to Greg Hembree for the memories.

Comings and goings…this is foot war, a venerable game where kids lying opposite on the couch push against each others’ feet.
My siblings and I used to play this game all the time when we were kids.
Prime conditions include: TV, snacks on the floor, little bit bored, and summer afternoon.
Because no parent can fill the whole summer with camps and clinics.

Comings and goings…this is Operation Mango Rescue (exfil for our pet Cockatiel). Mango, precious creature that she is, is an inside bird. And no one wants to clip her wings. For various reasons per family member: it would be cruel, not worth the hassle, and/or it’s funny to see her dive bomb guests.
So it’s an exciting but dangerous life for Mango. Like an 80’s rock star documentary.
Best I can tell, her head is connected by a piece of yarn, so there’s that.
Inside it’s ceiling fans, kids sword fighting, and walls.
Outside it’s hawks, owls, raccoons, coyotes, and the wind.
On the animal meal train, Mango is an uncooked nugget with wings. And they’ve all got hungry babies. Until then, it’s s*x, drugs, and millet for our favorite head banger.

As epitomized via the 1990 movie Joe Versus the Volcano’s luggage scene starring Tom Hanks (playing Joe Banks) and Barry McGovern (playing Luggage Salesman).
Because luggage “is the central preoccupation of my life.”

Comings and goings…these are the Soldiers of Mercy, a motorcycle ministry from Ramseur, NC.
These fine men and women travel all over the country praying, healing, and helping people in need.
Last Saturday they were at the give away on Freemont Rd. Helping people carry clothes and food to their cars, praying for people, and generally offering a helping hand.
I got a little prayer myself. Good stuff!

Comings and goings…this is a dispatch on the J.R. Battle coffee mug that could.
And/or you never know where your corporate swag will end up.
For most of its life, our hero mug lived on a bookshelf on the second floor of 1809 N. Oak St., Myrtle Beach. Housed in a brown folded cardboard box.
Some time ago I gave this mug (along with some 60 others) to someone. Because I wanted them to call me. And to have a mug for their coffee.
But not so. Our hero mug showed up at the Goodwill in Market Common. With all the other orphaned mugs.
A friend then saw the mug and sent my wife a video.
My wife (kind person that she is) went to the Goodwill to buy (back) our forsaken mug.
But it was gone. Someone bought little mug, and now it lives in a new home. Where it has warm coffee in its belly and a hand wash after every use.
God’s speed, brave, black market mug!
