Most estate plans don’t fail because the documents were drafted incorrectly. They fail because life changes.

Children grow up. Relationships evolve. Assets change. Trustees move. Beneficiary designations get overlooked. And years go by without a review. A well-designed estate plan should grow with your life, not stay frozen in time.

If it’s been several years since you reviewed your plan, it may be worth asking whether it still reflects your wishes, your family, and your goals. The best estate plan isn’t necessarily the one you signed years ago. It’s the one that still works for you today.

Ready to make sure your plan still fits your life? Attend one of our free estate planning workshops and learn what to review, what to update, and how to protect the people who matter most.

Most people don’t realize what actually happens when there’s no plan in place.

Assets don’t just transfer to your family. Everything goes through probate, where the court steps in, decisions take time, and costs can add up quickly.

During that process, accounts can be frozen and loved ones may not have access to the money they need right away.

And in the end, state law decides how things are handled, not your personal wishes.
It’s not something most people think about until it’s too late.

If you want to understand how to avoid this and make sure your plan works the way you intend, we cover it step by step in our free workshops.

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Their courage and selflessness secured the freedoms we enjoy every day. We pause to reflect, to remember, and to honor the lives given in service to something greater than themselves.

May we never forget those who gave everything.

Most people assume a will covers everything.

It doesn’t.

Certain assets follow their own rules and are passed based on beneficiary designations or how they’re owned, not what your will says.

That means things like life insurance, retirement accounts, and jointly owned assets can go directly to someone else, even if your will says otherwise.

If those details aren’t set up correctly, your plan may not work the way you expect.

This is one of the most common gaps we see.

A will is important, but it’s only one piece of the full plan.

If you want to understand how everything works together and make sure your assets go exactly where you intend, we walk through it step by step in our workshops.

Most people assume having a will means everything is covered. It doesn’t.

A complete plan includes choosing the right people to step in when it matters most. If something unexpected happens, who can make medical decisions for you? Who can handle your finances? Who makes sure your wishes are actually carried out?

These aren’t small details, they’re essential. And the reality is, most people haven’t made these decisions yet.

If you’re not sure where to start, we walk through this step by step in our workshops so you can set things up correctly and feel confident your plan will actually work the way you intend.

Today we honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the men and women who serve our country.

Their commitment protects not only our freedoms, but the families, futures, and way of life we hold dear. We are deeply grateful for their service and for the sacrifices made by their loved ones every day.

At Shoup Legal, we believe in planning ahead to protect what matters most. Today, we recognize those who make that protection possible.

Thank you for your service.
