Timothy Stewart Barkley was born September 29, 1964, in Berlin, Germany, US Army Base and was raised in Columbia, Maryland. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend, priest and lawyer. He lived his life as an offering and ministry to all he encountered. Tim and Ann, his wife of 36 years, raised 5 children; Joy, Sister Nina, Tiffany, Margaret and Joseph in Mt. Airy, Maryland. Tim’s wife and children were always a priority, even when he had other responsibilities.

Tim was the eldest son and excelled in service to his parents, David & Dorothy. Tim led the way and forged the path for 3 younger siblings, Ellen, David, and Beth, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. His wisdom, strength and kindness will be forever remembered and sorely missed.

Tim was a lawyer in Mount Airy, serving the local community for over 30 years. Once his children were grown but while his business was in full swing, he studied for several years to become an Orthodox Christian priest in Taneytown, Maryland. He is surely irreplaceable for his wholehearted service to his community and parish.

A couple of questions this month on special assets - some inherited antique vehicles that had not been retitled and a life insurance policy payable to a beneficiary who has long since passed. There are rules to follow in these types of situations and an order in which things need to be done - but they can take a lot of time and effort. As is so often the case with estate planning, these things can be avoided with - you guessed it - planning!

Some everyday examples of estate complications that could have been avoided with a visit with an attorney versed in estate planning. The time and expense are a good investment.

It’s sad when folks trying to do the right thing mess up and hurt the ones they love the most.
