“I have a will, so everything is taken care of.”
We hear this more often than you might think.
A will is incredibly important, but having one doesn’t automatically mean everything will be simple for your family or handled exactly the way you expect.
How your assets are titled, who is listed as a beneficiary, who can make financial or healthcare decisions if you’re unable to, and whether certain assets may still have to go through probate can all matter.
A good estate plan isn’t just about answering “What happens when I’m gone?”
It also answers “What happens if I’m still here, but I can’t make these decisions myself?”
Your will is one piece of the puzzle. The goal is making sure all the pieces actually work together.
That’s what thoughtful estate planning is really about.
