Here & Gone: Commemorating ICE Abductions in MN is a crowd-sourced archival project documenting the signs and artwork installed at sites of ICE abductions in Minnesota. Since Operation Metro Surge began in late 2025, Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) has detained at least 4,000 people in Minnesota. In response, community members have commemorated these sites with art and homemade signage. These spontaneous memorials–often made of paper, pen, or paint–are vulnerable to time and weather. Here & Gone aims to collect and map photos of these ephemeral memorials and organize them into a publicly available collection. The project seeks photo contributions of existing or past examples of how neighbors are marking sites of abductions across the state. Here & Gone is a project led by a group of students and faculty at the University of Minnesota who were also active in their neighborhoods during Operation Metro Surge. We are motivated by questions about how communities are beginning to remember these incidents and how understandings of place are changed by the presence of commemorative creations. Photos will be processed to remove personal information, stored in a secure database for long term preservation, and uploaded to a public collection of images. Images in the collection will exist in the public domain which means anyone is free to use and repurpose them. We will also map the locations of the photos which will be publicly available.

Community Opportunity: Open Road Fund

The Open Road Fund is a unique wealth-building initiative that provides $50,000 gifts to eligible Black residents in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The fund was created to help create pathways toward economic opportunity, prosperity, healing, and intergenerational wealth building for descendants of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Applications for the Open Road Fund open annually on Juneteenth, June 19, and remain open through late July.

Applicants must:
- Be a Black person who is a descendant of African people who were kidnapped and subjected to chattel enslavement in the Americas.
- Be 14 years of age or older.
- Reside in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, or one of the 23 Native Nations whose territories are located within those states.

Less than halfway through 2026, Minneapolis has already had a whirlwind year — and the struggles seem far from over.

Danger Boat Productions bringing two city leaders onstage for a very special edition of The Theater of Public Policy to talk about how they keep things running during a federal occupation, where the City Council and the Mayor’s Office intersect on the issues, and what the future holds for Minneapolis. Plus, we’ll finally answer the question on everyone’s minds: Why does it take so long to get from Uptown to Northeast?

This live show will feature a dynamic onstage conversation with Mayor Jacob Frey and City Council President Elliott Payne, moderated by Danger Boat’s own Tane Danger. Afterwards, we’ll bring up some of the funniest folks in the Twin Cities to shine a new light on the conversation through the art of improvised comedy.

Become a Rapid Response Fund Community Grantmaker

Headwaters Foundation for Justice is looking for folks who want to help move money into community organizing work through their Rapid Response Fund! In keeping with their core values to transform power and trust in community, they are transitioning the decision-making process for the Rapid Response Fund into community hands.

Applications close June 25, 2026.

The Rapid Response Fund Community Grantmaking Committee will comprise 12-15 members who will serve from August 2026 - June 2027. Committee members will receive training on HFJ’s approach to collective decision-making, build community together, receive a stipend for their work, and ultimately select 53 grantees over the course of 8 cycles.
