The Honorable Judge Monica Gordo, Florida Third District Court of Appeal, in the room.

Her nameplate on the table. Her words in the air. Thirty years of friendship between her and managing partner Alex Almazan and she still showed up to remind this team what the long game looks like.

That's the kind of firm we're building.

The Honorable Judge Monica Gordo, Florida Third District Court of Appeal, in the room.

Her nameplate on the table. Her words in the air. Thirty years of friendship between her and Alex Almazan. Judge Gordo still showed up to remind our Almazan Law team what the long game looks like.

That's the kind of firm we're building.

Before the first attorney walked in, this was happening.

Every detail from the welcome boxes, the packets, the notebooks were assembled by hand at The Biltmore the morning of our first ever retreat.

The work behind the work is always where it starts.

This weekend, our firm held its first-ever Attorney Retreat at The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables — and it was the weekend this firm needed.

Three offices (Miami · Tampa · West Palm Beach) in one room for two full days of strategy sessions, workshops, and a keynote from the Honorable Judge Monica Gordo of the Florida Third District Court of Appeal.

This is what modern law looks like from the inside.

Here's something no one in insurance defense talks about openly:

Most carriers don't leave their outside counsel because of a bad outcome in court.

They leave because of a bad surprise — a reserve that doubled, a deadline that slipped, a strategy that was never explained.

The difference between a good defense firm and a great outside counsel partner comes down to 5 things. We put them all in this carousel because we've seen what happens when even one of them is missing.

Swipe through and save it. If you're reviewing your Florida panel this year — this is your checklist.

→ Proactive communication. No reserve surprises.
→ Data-driven strategy. Not just motion practice.
→ AI-enhanced file review. LAE under control.
→ Florida-specific intelligence. Venues, judges, litigation patterns.
→ A team that treats your file like the only one.

If you'd like to talk about how Almazan Law serves as a true extension of your claims and legal team — we're easy to reach.

Will you be in Oakland for DWC’s 33rd Annual Educational Conference?

On March 6, our Managing Partner, Alexander P. Almazan, will join a national panel for:

“State of the Art: AI in Workers’ Compensation — National Perspective”
📍 Oakland, California

This is not a theoretical discussion about artificial intelligence.

It’s a candid examination of how AI is already influencing workers’ compensation claims handling, medical review, litigation strategy, and insurance defense operations across the country.

Panel faculty include:
• Dr. Chris Brigham – medicolegal standards and clinical rigor
• Alexander P. Almazan, Esq. – litigation strategy, ethics, regulatory exposure
• Ben Wen – AI architecture and validation
• Mark Tainton – data and analytics transformation in insurance
• Mark Pew (Oakland) – system incentives and unintended consequences
• Robert Wilson (Los Angeles program) – system-level leadership

The session will address:
• Where AI is already embedded in claims workflows
• How algorithmic tools influence triage, reserve setting, and settlement posture
• Accuracy, bias, and accountability in AI-supported decision-making
• Ethical boundaries and professional responsibility
• Governance frameworks for responsible AI deployment in workers’ compensation

For carriers, TPAs, defense counsel, and risk professionals, the question is no longer whether AI will impact the system — it already does.

The question is how we implement it deliberately.

If you are attending DWC 2026 in Oakland, we look forward to connecting.
