Most people think this is abandonment. They're wrong.

Your husband left. He stopped paying the rent. He no longer helps with the kids or household expenses.

Many people assume that means abandonment under Florida law.

But here's the surprising part: leaving the home is not one of the grounds for divorce in Florida.

In fact, Florida only recognizes two grounds for divorce:

✔️ Irreconcilable differences
✔️ Mental incapacity of a spouse

Just because your spouse moved out doesn't mean they've abandoned the marriage or given up their property rights.

If you're facing separation or divorce and aren't sure what your rights are, understanding the law can make all the difference.

One date could determine who gets what in a divorce.

Most people don't realize that the date of separation can have a major impact on what is considered marital property—and what isn't.

Even if you're still living together or co-parenting, having a clear separation date could make all the difference when it comes to protecting your assets.

Could you be making a costly mistake without even knowing it? 👀

💰 Used your inheritance to buy your marital home?

You may be shocked to learn that your inheritance could lose its protected status.

In Florida, inherited assets are often considered separate property. But when those funds are used to purchase a home shared with your spouse, the court may view that as commingling—potentially making the property subject to division in a divorce.

🏠 Before investing inherited money into a marital asset, make sure you understand the legal consequences.

Protecting your assets starts with knowing your rights.

⚖️ Thinking about divorce after 50? You’re not alone.

Hello, I am Dr. Shawntozi Campbell, Esquire — let’s talk about gray divorce.

Did you know that gray divorces (divorce after age 50) have increased in recent years? These cases are often more complex because it’s not just about two spouses — it can involve adult children, grandchildren, aging parents, finances, property, and even caregiving responsibilities.

One thing I always remind my clients: your divorce does not have to be contentious. This is someone you’ve shared years, memories, children, highs, and lows with. Choosing happiness again should never come with guilt.

Every family situation is different, and having the right legal guidance matters.

⚠️ A heartbreaking story that raises serious questions about domestic violence and protection.

A mother of twins reportedly endured documented domestic abuse, filed for divorce, and shortly after the final hearing, she and her children were found dead in their home.

This case is a painful reminder that domestic violence does not discriminate — it can happen regardless of financial status, background, or appearance.

What’s even more heartbreaking? Prior incidents had reportedly been documented, including a guilty plea related to abuse allegations. Yet many are asking: Could more have been done to protect her and her children?

Domestic violence often escalates — and sometimes the most dangerous moment is when a victim tries to leave.

💔 We need stronger conversations, stronger protections, and better support systems for victims.

📢 What are your thoughts?
How can we better protect women, mothers, and families from domestic violence escalating into tragedy?

If you own a business… is your spouse entitled to it during a divorce? 🤔

The answer? It depends.

If the business was started during the marriage, it may be considered marital property — especially if both spouses contributed to it in some way.

But what if you started the business before marriage and continued growing it throughout the relationship?

Now things get more complicated 👇

Factors that may impact what a spouse could be entitled to include:
✔️ How the business is structured
✔️ How you pay yourself
✔️ Whether personal and business finances were mixed
✔️ The role the business played during the marriage

When it comes to divorce, finances can significantly impact the outcome of your case — especially for business owners and high-earning couples.

The best move? Have a clear legal strategy to help protect what you’ve built.

📞 Contact Campbell Law to discuss your options and better understand how family law may impact your business.

🚨 **Can your ex ask for a copy of your lease in a family law case?**

Short answer: **Maybe — but that doesn’t mean they automatically get it.**

In family law cases, both parties are usually required to complete **mandatory financial disclosures**. This often includes:

✔️ Income verification
✔️ Debts & liabilities
✔️ Assets & property information
✔️ Health insurance details
✔️ Credit-related financial records

But does that include your **actual lease agreement**? Not always.

If the other party simply wants to verify your address, providing your current address may be enough. A request for your full lease can sometimes feel overly burdensome or invasive depending on the circumstances.

⚖️ Important reminder: Just because the other party **asks for something** does **not automatically mean they are entitled to it.**

Before turning over documents, it may be worth speaking with a family law attorney to understand your rights and obligations.

Have you ever been asked for documents you weren’t sure you had to provide? 👇

Court requesting a drug test in your family case? Do you have to take it?

The answer depends on your situation. A request for a drug test can impact custody, parenting time, and your case strategy — especially with changing cannabis laws and medical use.
