Company Description Paulding County Public Defender's Office provides legal representation to individuals who cannot afford private counsel, ensuring their constitutional rights are protected within the criminal justice system. Located in Dallas, GA, the office serves the local community by handling a wide range of criminal cases in state and local courts. Team members work closely with clients, courts, and partner agencies to promote fair outcomes and equal access to justice. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Criminal Defense Attorney role based in Dallas, GA. The attorney will represent clients in criminal matters from initial arraignment through trial and, where appropriate, appeals. Day-to-day tasks include meeting with clients, assessing cases, conducting legal research, drafting motions and other pleadings, negotiating with prosecutors, and appearing in court for hearings and trials. The role involves reviewing discovery, developing defense strategies, interviewing witnesses, and collaborating with investigators and support staff. The attorney will also maintain accurate case files, comply with all ethical and professional standards, and participate in training or meetings to stay current on developments in criminal law and procedure.
Qualifications Preferred:
Strong foundation in Law with focused experience in Criminal Law.
Demonstrated expertise in Criminal Defense and Criminal Defense Law. New attorneys and graduates awaiting bar results are encouraged to apply.
Ability to conduct thorough legal Research to support motions, trial strategy, and client counseling.
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Georgia, or pending Bar admission.
Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, including motion practice and courtroom presentation.
Ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
Commitment to client-centered representation, including strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
Willingness to collaborate with colleagues, investigators, and support staff and to participate in ongoing training.
Prior experience in a public defender, legal aid, or criminal defense setting is preferred but not required.
