NEWS ALERT!! The Trump administration announced that many foreign nationals seeking green cards may now be required to leave the United States and apply through U.S. consulates abroad, unless USCIS finds “extraordinary circumstances.”

The change appears to break from the long-standing practice of allowing eligible applicants to adjust status inside the United States under INA § 245(a), including spouses of U.S. citizens, employment-based applicants, refugees, and others. This is a deeply concerning development for the immigrant community.
