Partner Caleb Walker, who leads our appellate practice, explains when an appeal is no longer optional in part 3 of Appeals in The Trial Lawyer Series. Whether you are responding to a defense appeal or facing a dismissal or summary judgment, some situations require you to take the next step.

Strong appeals are grounded in significant legal error, such as improperly excluded evidence or prejudicial information that could affect the outcome of the trial. Not every issue rises to that level.

A recent Georgia Supreme Court decision continues to shape how these issues are evaluated in practice: https://mcarthurlawfirm.com/blog/from-turner-to-clark-georgia-supreme-court-continues-to-protect-the-constitutional-role-of-juries/

Attorneys Kathy McArthur, Jordan Josey, Lindsey Macon, Holly Stephens, and Brandon Sartin enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the State Bar of Georgia Annual Meeting on Amelia Island.

We attended CLE programs, celebrated the swearing-in of new Bar leaders, and appreciated the chance to spend time with family, friends, and attorneys from across the state. It was a great weekend of learning, connection, and celebrating Georgia's legal community. We're grateful for the opportunity to stay engaged with the broader legal community and the work of the State Bar!

In Part 2 of Appeals in The Trial Lawyer Series, Caleb walks through the key steps in a final judgment appeal. From filing a notice of appeal to preparing the trial transcript, the process begins in the trial court before moving to the Court of Appeals or Supreme Court, depending on jurisdiction.

Once the record is filed, the case is docketed and a briefing schedule is set, triggering deadlines for briefs and requests for oral argument.

We are so proud of our own Quintesha Reynolds for her incredible tenure as President of the Macon Trial Lawyers Association!

"Serving as President of MTLA has been an incredible honor, and one of those rare experiences that shapes you both professionally and personally. I will forever be grateful for the friendships forged, the support received, and the opportunities that came along the way.

I'm excited to pass the torch to attorney Joseph "Jay" Prine of Prine Law Group as MTLA's 2026-2027 President. Jay is a great lawyer and person, and I know he will excel as President and help build on MTLA's continued success. Thank you to everyone who made this year so special." - Quintesha
