Taylor Swift just filed trademarks on her own voice. She's not the only one.

In April, her team filed three USPTO trademark applications specifically targeting AI-generated clones and deepfakes. Copyright law and right-of-publicity laws weren't closing the gap, so trademark law is being tested as the next line of defense. Other celebrities are following. Legal experts are calling it the most consequential personal brand IP strategy of the AI era. They're also saying its effectiveness is completely untested.

Most business owners and creators don't have Taylor Swift's legal budget. But the underlying question of what happens when AI generates a convincing version of your voice, your face, or your brand without permission applies at every level. An IP attorney can walk you through what existing protections actually cover today, and what they don't.

If someone generated a convincing AI version of your voice or brand identity tomorrow, what would you do? This is a genuinely new question and I'd love to know how people are thinking about it. 👇
