Law Office of Eric Alan Isaacson I have decades of experience with federal class actions and appeals. For more than two decades my practice has focused on civil appeals in federal court. Det. L.

I have briefed and argued appeals before all but three of the thirteen federal appellate circuit courts, and have participated in briefing several cases on the merits before the United States Supreme Court. I also have filed numerous amicus curiae briefs, often on behalf of institutional investors supporting honest securities markets, on behalf of law professors urging sensible interpretation of laws protecting the public interest, and on behalf of religious organizations and faith leaders supporting religious liberty and equal rights for all. My pro bono work seeking to advance religious liberty and civil rights has been recognized with awards from the Unitarian Universalist Association, St. Paul's Foundation for International Reconciliation, the American Constitution Society's San Diego Lawyer Chapter, the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, and San Diego's Democrats for Equality. I also have published several articles concerning class-action litigation, church-state issues, and civil rights. They include:

Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, issued a statement on the planned ex*****on of Nidal Malik Hasan.

Yesterday, the U.S. Department of War announced that the firing squad ex*****on of Nidal Hasan, the man convicted of killing 13 people and injuring 32 at Fort Hood, Texas in 2009, would be publicly livestreamed. Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued the following statement sharply condemning the decision of the U.S. government:

“It is with shock and great sorrow that I have learned of the Department of War’s decision to publicly livestream the ex*****on of Nidal Hasan. Our God is the God of life. In no way can Hassan’s actions be condoned but this decision is a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered. The word of God exhorts us: ‘do not repay anyone evil for evil' (Romans 12:17). The public ex*****on even of one who has done grave harm will only further undermine the moral fabric of our nation and be a blight on the conscience of its people.

“I pray for the intercession of Our Lady of Good Counsel that we as a nation may always choose life even in the most trying times and circumstances.”

For decades, the liberal camp in Israel has cultivated a convenient and effective defense mechanism. When faced with uncomfortable moral questions about Israel’s actions, responsibility could usually be assigned to the political fringes. The culprits were always the “bad apples”: hilltop youth, far-right ministers, a rogue infantry unit, settlers nobody in north Tel Aviv would invite to dinner.

This division of labor was remarkably convenient. The right committed the crimes; the liberals supplied the morality. The occupation and multiple rounds of war in Gaza, with all their ugliness, were things that “they” did, while “we” investigated abuses and protested to save Israeli democracy.

“NAZA” attacks that alibi. The film bypasses the usual villains and goes straight for the Holy of Holies of the Israeli elite: Unit 8200, which supplies the intelligence for airstrike targets, and the Air Force, which turns those targets into ruined buildings and dead families. The people placed under moral scrutiny are not settlers but graduates of top schools and elite military units who go on to universities and high-tech companies — exactly the people liberal Israel sees when it looks in the mirror.
