This week's legal term: Prejudgment interest
Prejudgment interest is court-awarded interest that compensates a worker for the loss of use of money from the date it was owed until the date of judgment. In plain terms, it accounts for the value lost while a worker waited to be paid what they had already earned.
Prejudgment interest exists so a delayed paycheck isn't quietly shrunk by the passage of time.
