Think about how much can change in five or ten years...

A marriage. A new home. Children growing up. Grandchildren arriving. Retirement. Relationships changing. People coming into and sometimes out of our lives.

And while all of that is happening, the estate plan tucked away in a drawer stays exactly the same.

That's why having an estate plan isn't always the end of the conversation. Every so often, it's worth asking:

Does the plan I made then still reflect the life I have now?

If you can't remember the last time you looked at yours, that may be a good reason to pull it out and take another look.

Life changes. Your plan should be able to change with it, too. 🤍

For 15 years, we had a very special little visitor at our office. 🐾🤍

She was a stray orange cat who somehow decided that this was one of the places she belonged.

Our staff fed her, named her Mama, looked out for her, and got used to seeing her around the property. Over the years, she became such a familiar part of everyday life here that it was hard to imagine the office without her.

She even raised two litters of kittens along the way. One litter all orange kittens who looked exactly like her, and another full of precious tabbies.

Fifteen years is a long time.

Long enough for a stray cat to become part of the story of a place.

We recently lost our sweet girl, and things around the office feel a little different without her.

We're grateful that for all those years, she knew there was food waiting for her here, people watching out for her, and a place where she was always welcome.

We'll miss seeing you around here, sweet girl. 🐾🤍

Your child's 18th birthday feels like a milestone.

And legally, it is one too.

One of the things that surprises many parents is that when a child becomes a legal adult, a parent's ability to automatically step in and help with certain medical or financial matters can possibly change.

It's easy to overlook. You're thinking about graduation, college, first jobs, moving out...and all the exciting things ahead.

But this is also a good time to make sure your family understands what changes at 18 and whether there are planning steps that make sense for your situation.

Estate planning isn't only about preparing for the end of life.

Sometimes, it's simply about being prepared for the life that's happening right now.
