Happy National Dog Day! Research shows dogs can have great benefits for Seniors and their health.

Studies show that regular canine interaction lowers blood pressure, reduces stress, and combats social isolation. In memory care facilities, a single visit from a therapy dog can ease agitation and spark long-buried memories in seniors living with dementia.

At Stages Law we focus on Life Care Planning because protecting your loved ones isn't just about drafting legal documents, it's about preserving their happiness, independence, and overall quality of life (including pet companionship!).

Every day, we strive to make people feel comfortable and supported while navigating complex legal choices. Receiving feedback like this lets us know we are accomplishing exactly what we set out to do.

"What sets this firm apart isn't just their legal expertise... it’s how they make you feel as a client. I felt heard, respected, and truly cared for throughout the entire process."

Navigating estate planning, elder law, or probate decisions is about your family, your future, and having a team in your corner who genuinely listens.

Knowing our clients walk away feeling heard, respected, and truly cared for is the ultimate sign that our efforts are making a real difference. You are never just another case file to us.

If you are ready to protect your legacy with a team that puts your comfort and peace of mind first, we are here whenever you need us.

What happens to your estate if a loved one named in your will passes away before you do?

If your will doesn't explicitly name a contingent beneficiary, that portion of your estate doesn't automatically go where you might expect. Depending on state anti-lapse laws, a lack of clarity can send assets to probate court or trigger unnecessary legal delays for surviving family members.

Is your estate plan fully protected against contingencies? Schedule a consultation with Stages Elder Care Law to review your will today.

A huge thank you to the Independence, KY Senior Activity Center and Shelli Stinson, Realtor with expRealty, for hosting us yesterday! Also thanks to Chris Grubbs with Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Homes for joining me; we're always happy to partner with Chris.

We had a fantastic time connecting with such an engaged group. The audience brought so many thoughtful questions to the table. Educating the community on the importance of estate planning is a core part of what we do, and we hope everyone walked away with valuable, helpful insights.

Huge shout out to Shelli Stinson, Realtor with expRealty for our lunch and learn today. We got great information about funeral preparations from Chris Grubbs from Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Homes and wills, trusts and elder law from Andrew Schierberg with Stages Elder Care Law . We always appreciate when members of our community take the time to share their expertise with us. Knowledge is power! And lunch was delicious, too!

A diagnosis of dementia, Alzheimer’s, or progressive cognitive decline changes the conversation instantly. It is completely normal to feel overwhelmed by the sudden weight of the complexities ahead.

Beyond the immediate health changes, families are quickly forced to face a maze of practical and financial questions. Can we protect the family home? How do we find the right care resources? Have we already run out of time to plan?

When you are trying to find your footing, a traditional law firm that treats estate planning like a cold, one-time transaction isn't enough. You don’t just need a standard folder of paperwork and a handshake. You need a calm, grounded team to help you navigate the road ahead.

At Stages, we focus on a long-term relationship to guide your family through the realities of cognitive decline with clarity and confidence:

📜 Estate Planning: Ensuring foundational documents (like Powers of Attorney) are upgraded with the robust, specific language required to protect your loved one’s choices and dignity.

🛡️ Protection Planning: Implementing active legal strategies to shield your home and life savings from being entirely consumed by memory care costs. (The truth is, it is almost never too late to protect assets after a diagnosis).

🗺️ Life Care Planning: Pairing your family with a dedicated Elder Care Coordinator who helps you find the best local care, navigate skilled nursing, and significantly reduce family caregiver stress.

You were meant to be a supportive family member, not a full-time legal analyst and healthcare coordinator. Let us carry the weight of the system so you can focus on what matters most.

Facing a dementia diagnosis in NKY? Learn how to protect your home and life savings from long-term care costs with Stages Elder Care Law.

A standard estate plan only covers the first step. But what happens when life actually changes?

Many firms draft basic documents and stop there. They don’t protect your home and savings from long-term care costs, and they can't help your family handle a complex healthcare system.

At Stages, we guide you through the whole journey:

Estate Planning: To ensure your wishes are honored, everyone needs these three essentials: a Will, Power of Attorney, and Healthcare Directive.

Protection Planning: Beyond basic planning, we provide the strategies needed to protect your legacy and safeguard your assets from future long-term care costs.

Life Care Planning: When health changes require complex care, we help you navigate care coordination and reduce stress for you and your loved ones.

You don’t just need a folder of paperwork—you need a clear roadmap for the future. Let’s build yours together.
