THROWBACK THURSDAY | A LITTLE ELLIJAY HISTORY
Did you know that one of Ellijay’s former courthouses actually started out as a hotel?
Built in 1898, the Hyatt Hotel once welcomed travelers visiting our little mountain town. In 1934, the building was converted into the Gilmer County Courthouse, where it served our community for decades before being demolished in 2008.
From a place for travelers to rest to a place where important county decisions were made, this building was part of Ellijay’s story for more than a century!
It's pretty amazing to look back at these old photographs and see just how much our little mountain town has changed over the years.
We love sharing the history that makes North Georgia such a special place to call home!
