I (Jennifer Wright) concluded my 7-year tenure on the board of the Oklahoma City Estate Planning Council this month, serving as President this past year. It has been my honor to serve on this board, and I will continue to be involved as a member going forward. For our last meeting, we welcomed attorney and author Porter Heath Morgan IV, who shared insights on the future of AI, as well as estate planning considerations. His presentation was very thought-provoking. Heath recently authored the young adult novel The Memory Project (link in comments). At the meeting, the board presented Carol Thompson, the Council's longtime administrator, with flowers and a gift in recognition of her 25 years of service to the Council and her retirement from the Council.

Grateful to be in Miami this week attending the Academy of Special Needs Planners Conference alongside so many dedicated professionals who are passionate about serving individuals with disabilities and their families.

Some of the most valuable takeaways so far have been around practical strategies for improving the administration of special needs trusts, navigating evolving public benefits rules (many changes coming!), and finding better ways to collaborate with financial advisors and care teams to support long-term planning for clients.

It’s always refreshing to step away from the day-to-day and spend time learning, sharing ideas, and thinking more intentionally about how we can continue to elevate the level of service we provide.

Looking forward to bringing these insights back to the team so we can better support the families we serve.

Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season!

💙 Giving Back in Our Community! 💙
The Wright Law Firm team recently spent time volunteering with Angels Foster Family Network in Edmond! We helped organize their clothes closet, making it easier to find items needed for foster families when welcoming a child into their home.

We’re grateful for organizations like Angels Foster Family Network that make such a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families. Thank you for letting us be a part of your mission!

When planning your estate, how you leave assets can matter just as much as who you leave them to. 💡

Our latest blog post shares a few simple ways to protect your beneficiaries through thoughtful distribution provisions — from staged distributions to incentives that fit your family’s goals.

Quick read here 👉

Asset distribution is a topic that many of our clients have questions about. Can they put stipulations on distributions, like an adult child must finish college first? Or reach a certain age before receiving the funds? What are the options to distribute the inheritance slowly over time instead of al...

This week is National Estate Planning Awareness week, which was established by Congress in 2008 as a means to help raise awareness of the importance of estate planning. Jennifer Wright recently partnered with Lindsay Laird, Vice President of Philanthropic Services at Oklahoma City Community Foundation in authoring this op-ed published in the Daily Oklahoman to help bring attention to the important, but often overlooked, topic of estate planning.

With recent tax law changes, it's time to be informed and make decisions that protect your wealth and legacy of generosity you wish to leave behind.

📜 Estate planning isn’t just paperwork—it’s peace of mind.
We’ve seen the pain families go through when a DIY will or trust fails to hold up. What starts as an attempt to “save money” can end in confusion, court battles, and broken relationships.
The truth? Your estate plan is one of the most important gifts you’ll leave your loved ones.
In our latest blog post, we share 8 reasons why DIY estate planning often does more harm than good—and what to consider instead.
🔒 Protect your family. Preserve your legacy. Plan with care.

Estate planning is one of the most important things you can do to protect your family, your assets, and your legacy. While do-it-yourself (DIY) options — including online platforms that offer fill-in-the-blank estate planning documents — may seem appealing due to convenience and low upfront cost...
