It’s the end of Spring Semester: University students are either heading home for a much-needed break or celebrating graduation. Many professors are getting ready for a relaxing summer, however, that’s not the case with all of them. FGHW partner Paula Beasley has had the privilege of teaching a Real Estate Law class at SMU’s Cox School of Business for the last 18 years while also heading up the firm's Real Estate division by day. It means a great deal to us that her students find learning from Paula as rewarding as she finds teaching, and it’s clear from their feedback that she’s making a real difference in their academic lives and beyond. We thought we’d share some of things they said after this last semester about Paula and her Real Estate Law class.

Madeleine earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Mississippi and graduated from the University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law, where she received the CALI Award for Conflicts of Law. Madeleine began her career in personal injury and liability and has transitioned her focus to probate litigation, lease enforcement, and affordable and subsidized housing law. Outside her practice of law, Madeleine volunteers with Cody’s Friends Animal Rescue, Feed My Starving Children, and is an engaged member of her church community at Shoreline City.

FGHW Partners Paula Beasley, Stephanie Osteen, and Barrett Richards attended the Grand Opening of client Dallas Metrocare Services’ new corporate headquarters last week. Paula worked with Metrocare to acquire the land and in the initial stages of development. The new campus is state of the art and will significantly expand Metrocare’s services to Dallas County residents.

FGHW attorney and equity partner Paula Beasley recently spoke at the 2025 Hawaii Millionaire’s Mindset Blueprint Conference, Hawaii’s Largest Business and Real Estate Conference held on the island of Oahu and hosted by Paula’s client, Dearrone Bethea. It was a high-octane gathering tailored to entrepreneurs, investors, business owners, and anyone with the ambition to engage in the commercial real estate market. Paula’s presentation focused on navigating legal challenges in commercial real estate and was followed by two roundtable discussions where attendees were able to pepper her with specific real estate questions.

Partners Paula Beasley and Stephanie Osteen toured client Dallas Metrocare Services’ new Mental Health and Disability Innovation Center at Hillside which will provide integrated care for children, adults, families, veterans, and those with disabilities. It’s scheduled to open this Fall, and CFO Lucas Wilson treated them to a behind-the-scenes look at the ongoing construction and plans for the state-of-the-art facility. Paula acts as real estate counsel for Metrocare and had a significant role in the land acquisition. A long-time client of the Firm, Metrocare is the largest provider of behavioral health services in Dallas County and provides same-day access to psychiatric care regardless of ability to pay.

School is out and FGHW hopes that the 2025 recipients of the Liza Farrow-Gillespie Intrepid Young Woman scholarship enjoy the summer before heading off to college. The scholarship is traditionally awarded to two scholars, but because of the generosity of donors, this year’s scholarship was given to three students. Congratulations to Skyline High School’s Fritzi Ortega, and Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet students, Jordan Wesley and Abygail Vargas.

Prior to the award announcement at the law magnet, FGHW paralegal Lesly Evans shared how Liza impacted her life and her hopes for the scholarship recipients.

Before working as a paralegal at Farrow-Gillespie Heath Wilmoth, I had a career as a receptionist in hair salons. I enjoyed it, but I always felt like something was missing. About ten years ago, a hairstylist approached me to talk about her favorite client, Liza Farrow-Gillespie. She told me Liza was adventurous, funny, co-founded a woman-owned law firm, and that the law firm was looking for a receptionist.

I had zero office experience, but Liza and co-founder Julie Heath believed in me. After working as their receptionist for a while, I realized that I wanted to be a paralegal. And they believed in me. The firm paid for my school.

As it turns out, that’s what was missing. Being a paralegal is my dream. It is fascinating, and meaningful, and even the difficult days are still somehow fun. My entire world changed because of that initial connection with Liza.
