Texas property owners who are over 65 and occupy the residence as their homestead, can file a form to defer taxes until they transfer ownership, no longer reside in the property, or pass away. When the appraisal district approves the form, a letter gets mailed out. It doesn’t stop taxes from accruing but it helps prevent the tax foreclosure.
