Our lawyers and staff have been super busy this summer! Lots of contested hearings already, a massive uptick in divorce and custody work, and several motion hearings and bench trials.

This would not be possible without the help and support of our admin staff who take care of a ton of work behind the scenes so that we can keep bringing in new business and helping those in need of legal services across east central Ohio, southeast Ohio, and West Virginia.

We also welcomed two interns for the summer: Rylie Hess who is a law student at WVU Law, and Taylor Gossett who is in undergrad at Marietta College. They are getting a ton of experience in the office and traveling to court with our attorneys to see as many aspects of the practice of law as possible ⚖️

Attorney Cross will be out of office on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. This is to allow him to attend the Ohio State Bar Association's Council of Delegates annual meeting, which he was nominated to in late 2025. He will return on Thursday, May 21.

As the 2026 Beach Bash comes to a close, our attorneys at Cross Law Office would like to thank the OACDL for assembling another destination seminar for our attorneys to attend. We learned a lot, networked with colleagues, and are recharged for the upcoming week!

Attorney Graham provided a presentation on Protective Sweeps, while Attorney Cross presented on Plea Negotiations and Sentencing Considerations.

Attorneys Graham, Cross, and D'Andrea will be heading to Myrtle Beach, SC for the annual OACDL Beach Bash Seminar. Attorneys Cross and Graham will be delivering presentations as well.

They will leave on Wednesday, May 13. Attorneys Cross and D'Andrea will return to office on Monday, May 18, and Attorney Graham will return to office on Wednesaday, May 20.

Over the last month or so, Attorney Cross has been very busy. Notable results or happenings include:

1. Dismissal of a post-decree modification of custody because the opposing party's Motion failed to state a valid legal claim.

2. Dismissal of an initial custody filing due to the court it was filed in being an inconvenient forum.

3. Reunification of children with parents and closure of cases in multiple children services' initiated complaints.

4. Following a motion to suppress hearing and a week short of trial- dismissal of a resisting charge in exchange for a plea to a minor misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

5. Successful negotiations in several high level felony cases leading to significantly reduced sentences or probation.

6. Participation as a member of a Q&A/Trial Tactics panel at the OACDL's S*x in the Spring Seminar at the University of Cincinnati Law School.

7. Successful Motion for Legal Custody in favor of Attorney Cross's client in a contested children services' initiated case.

Attorney Cross wants to thank the jurors of Holmes County for their time and attention today for the jury trial in the Holmes County Municipal Court.

We came up short on a charge of Assault with a self-defense argument. However, prior to trial beginning, the State moved to dismiss a Resisting Arrest charge.
