BREAKING NEWS! The TAKE IT DOWN ACT is now in effect. That means platforms such as websites and apps have 48 hours to remove intimate images shared without your consent after you report them, and they’re required to continually remove duplicates by federal law. The law applies to images and videos, real and fake, including AI-generated or “deepfake” content.

If a platform does not follow the law, you have the right to report them to the FTC, the government agency responsible for enforcing this law, at TAKEITDOWN.ftc.gov.

This is a major win for survivors and one step forward in combatting image-based sexual abuse. If you have struggled in the wake of this abuse, know that you are not alone and you deserve an expedient response when you report harm.

Platforms must do more to not only respond to this abuse, but to prevent these images from being created and spreading, shifting the onus of responsibility from survivors to perpetrators and the tech companies that facilitate this abuse.

In honor of Mother’s Day, funny things my kids have said this weekend:

1. Do you have a hair heat gun? (aka blow dryer)

2. We rode in the same car here to save gas and then we will go back to the school to pick up his truck and then I will drive back here.
Me: You could have just driven here in your respective trucks and then he could have left from here to go home tomorrow rather than driving back and forth in your truck 3 times.
Kid: Oh.

3. Me: You can cut up the fruit and put it on a plate.
Kid: Which plate do we use for fruit?
Me: Just a normal plate.
Kid: Where are those?
Me: In the plate cabinet where they always are.
Kid: Oh! You mean a regular plate.
